First MMO on Consoles.

by AG Interactive · 04/04/2009 (4:53 pm) · 7 comments

Well its the 2nd kinda. But what puzzles me is why has both of the first consoles MMOs been release on the PS3. Now I'm a Sony Fan but why? I can't answere so I'll leave it alone.

MAG is the 2nd console MMO following Playstation Home. Their is little known about this game. (http://i40.tinypic.com/4v0b6c.jpg).

Its a very neat looking game launching this fall. Its supposed to be able to play 256 players per. room.

However the pictures reveiled from MAG Flickr feed has a comment, click on the users page and look at his uploaded pictures for 07 and 08, some of the pictures he posted were MAG pictures.

Anyway, there is not alot of information on the game except this message from Zipper.

"What an exciting time for us! We have been keeping MAG under wraps for some time now, so it’s great to finally get to share with you what we are doing. Thanks for all of the enthusiasm and we are looking forward to not only making this game for you but playing it with you!

While we appreciate your comments, ideas and suggestions, it’s important to note that we are not at a place in our development cycle to share much with you yet. So we will be maintaining radio silence for a while. We’ll still come by here and visit the forum and read what you have to say, but we won’t be revealing anything more to you right now. It’s just too early for that.

Feel free to discuss your thoughts and ideas here. And we will begin to answer some of your questions down the road when we can. But right now, we are hard at work creating this new and exciting experience for you! We look forward to interacting with you more in the future!"

This game is exclusively for the PS3.

This blog does not necessarily follow the spirit of this section. We usually reserve the blog section for development discussion for our community.

This might be better suited in the forums, so nothing else gets bumped off the blog page. Mind moving it?

How is this the first or even the second?

Final Fantasy 11: PS2-2004
EverQuest Online Adventures: PS2-2003
Phantasy Star Online: Dreamcast-2000 Xbox/GameCube-2002
Phantasy Star Universe - Xbox 360, PS2. 2006

I dont consider 256 players a mmo to be honest, screens are nice but then again majority of games look nice on screens, yet theres so much shit out there where developers believe the route to a successful game is fancy shizz graphics and forget about gameplay. Looks to me to just be a larger server version of BF/Stalker combined ... plus majority of the images look nothing more then concepts

well i was not going to post as was waiting for him to do what
Michael Perry said to do but here i go anyway.

jaimi gave you some more mmo's.

why are they for ps3 well to run a mmo you need power and those other systems don't have the power like ps3 has its why you see more mmo's on the ps3. you think its easy running 250 people on one server is easy you need a powerful system in order to run one. you can make one for the other systems but graphics will have to be super way down to run a mmo if you was to put one on the other systems.

people say ps3 is not worth the money its more then worth the money and i hate xbox anyway there controllers are to big. :P even if xbox 360 was better then the ps3 i will still buy the ps3 as i know Sony is a good company and they build things strong and they last you a long time. microsoft on the other hand don't look at vista it looks all good and all but it don't work also how long will a xbox 360 last you when they first came out they did not last very long now did they. :P

i hope this don't get into a console war here at GG its not what i intend to do. :P

I think you guys are totally missing the point, MAG (Massively Action GAME) is a 256 player team based Military stategy game. Its not a MMO, its not even close. Its specificly teir based sqauds, multiplayer actions. And has been in development for almost 2 years since it was announced at E3 in 2007.

And As for the PS3 or the Xbox 360 or what ever console BS war you want to account for. It not about the console, its about the support to be able to hand the traffic and networking. 256 players in a single game, while not new over a PC platform (or Mac) Its very new for console style shooters, which as we know usually have a 32 or 64 player maximum (which as we understand it is due to net traffic and such)

But the blog title is "First MMO on Consoles". So we're definitely getting the point.

So MAG isn't built using TGEA?
