GDC AND YOU

The Premise

Greetings community! No blog today about Documentation. Today, this blog is for YOU. We have said this before: The GarageGames communities (GG.com and IA.com) rock. I've been a member of this community for over four years now, and I never see myself leaving.

Up until last year, I never had a chance to attend GDC for financial or scheduling reasons. I was either worried about making rent, or attending school, or my job would not give me time off. I know there are some of you who have similar situations.

The Videos

With that in mind, we came up with the idea to bring GDC to you, the community. Each day we planned on having live broadcasts featuring interviews with those attending. At one point, we decided to start broadcasting outside of the scheduled times. Those that attended the feeds were very happy, and their energy was uplifting to those of us in the booth.

We went to GDC with our heads held high, and absolutely rocked the show for 3 straight days with a packed booth every single minute. We felt you needed to be a part of that. From GarageGames, we thank each and every one of you for the support over the years. We hope you enjoy the videos, which you can find here:

Next Blog

My next couple of blogs will include IRC Hour Schedules, Torque 3D documentation previews, and more. If you wish to ask more about how GDC went, feel free to post here.

i have not seen that on ether but i do see a new web video for T3D on vimeo which they have not posted yet so looks like they are editing the T3D ones. i just hope they don't take out stuff we have not seen for T3D as i think thats what they are doing.

The Torque 3D South Pacific video is not ready, yet. It ends up being about 25 minutes (yikes!). We want to splice in some actual screen caps as well so you can get full HD previews of it in action.

Hang tight, and let me know what you think of the rest of the videos.

Ok, thanks.

On the videos, they are really interesting and fun. You look very profesional in the interviews! :D

And totally agree with Psylocke (aka Deborah Marshall) at the begining of the latest video, the idea of giving a space into the GG spot to Torque based games, was awesome. Probably one of the most synergic, among all the cool ideas GG brought for the community for this year's GDC.

And the demos were very cool, inspiring to see those brave guys showing their work on THE Conference! Also very cool to see some faces behind the avatars and chats.

And that includes you Michael!

Mperry, you = legend.
I think that what you have done is great. I would think that you'll go pr0 with this in the next few years.. :sigh: ..You'll forget us all and then get a TVshow for yourself..something like Attack Of The Show but without the 'tooly feel'.(*tooly feel does not emanate from Olivia)[/ramble]

Lol, nice videos, I watched them during GDC, looked like a lot of fun, good job Mich.

With that being said, T3D videos now please, it's been an entire week. I've gone past obsessively checking the site every hour "just in case they're up" and have begun to gnaw on the furniture.

Please, think of the furniture. :(

@eb - My own father said I have a face made for radio ;) I have been thinking about renting out some time on PB for my own game discussions. That would be very lame though. Thanks for the comment though

@David - The ratio is like, 50% normal, 40% sarcastic, 5% awesome, and 5% centaur.

@Sparkling - Most welcome =)

@Everyone Else - The first Torque 3D video is on our Vimeo site, demonstrating the web tech stuff.

The other Torque 3D videos are being rolled into a special blog, which will hopefully include some screen caps as well. Patience

Michael, your father was correct. Eccept, he forgot to tell you that you have a voice for video. :-D

Awesome videos. Thanks for posting them. I was unable to attend even at home.

Voice for video is better than face for radio, I guess :)

I got the impression that GG was one of the most popular booths. Are you simply bragging, or do you have video evidence? :P

@Mike - Ouch...damn man =)

@Ronny - It was hard to get evidence because I did not even have enough elbow room to move the camera around to take a shot of all the people.

I only got to see one broadcast, but I thought you did a great job. I think they should bring you food though. :) I wanted to hear more. Something that might have been prohibitive due to the site rules or something I don't know, but I really wanted to see the camera look around the room a little bit. See what you see. All I could see was the backdrop, and the people being interviewed of course (except when they escaped off camera LOL). But you did a fine job, especially for being sleep deprived and starved.

God bless you,
-Sparkling

@Sparkling - Had I not been slammed with iTorque inquiries, I probably would have done a few more camera panning shots. At one point we did set the webcam up to point into the booth so viewers could see how things were going, but it did not stay up too long.

Next time we do this we are going to have a lot more to offer =)

Yeah it looked like a very intense week for you guys. I was surprised anyone even got a chance to post to any blogs at all to be honest. Conferences are usually packed every second with fast paced activity and lots to do and people to see and sessions to go to. You did a great job getting this stuff online.

God bless you,
-Laurene

I meant that as a compliment. :-)
Your interviews were great.
(you wouldn't want my face on camera. It would break the cam.)
