San Francisco, look out, because we've got our bags packed, our booth shipped, and everything is looking fine and sunny for the Game Developers Conference 2009!

Okay...so maybe that's understating it a little bit. It's been CRAZY around here. Conference planning is kind of like bar hopping: you're expecting a crazy good time, and it's always much more fun to drink while you're doing it. To give you an idea of what it's been like to coordinate this show, here's a few numbers to chew on:

  • We've ordered almost 1,000 shirts for this show.
  • We're burning 1,000 demo discs for attendees to take away (minus the 20 so far we accidentally ruined).
  • Over 60 people are coming to GDC as a direct result of the GarageGames booth, including 20 GG employees, 20 business partners and game developers, and 20 associates and other community members.
  • Our booth has 6 brand new standing banners, plus a 35 pound full replica 3D Torque logo that we hope we can display from the trade show ceiling.
  • We currently have a planned total of 14 different presentations, mostly in our booth (and more on that below).
  • And all these numbers add up to:

1 Rockin' Good Time

WARNING! Booth preparation in progress...

Here's the more explicit details of what's happening in booth #6240 in North Moscone this year (do note that this is the current schedule in PST and may be subject to last minute changes):

Wednesday, March 25th

Thursday, March 26th

Friday, March 27th

  • 11 AM: Live Internet Chat, featuring GG Employees
  • 12 PM: Bumble Tales Game Demo (made with TGB) by Tandem Games

And, of course, you will be able to meet the winners of our GDC expo pass giveaway as well.

For those not attending GDC this year

I'm sure some of you are reading this right now and thinking, "That's great, but I'm a busy, boot-strapped game developer who doesn't have the time or money to make a trip down to GDC during crunch time." You are, after all, our core customer base. ^_^ So this year, we will be recording all of the above demos and will have them available for viewing on our Vimeo account after the show.

In addition, our tireless Michael Perry will be hosting live chats each day on the show room floor. Join him Wednesday at 3 pm PST for Torque Game Developer interviews, Thursday at 1 pm PST for Torque Community Member interviews, and Friday at 11 am PST for GarageGames Employee interviews. Just log into our ustream channel and you will be able to ask questions live during the interview. No more hiding behind faceless keyboards for us!

Hope to see a bunch of you there!

Here's a quick protip for those going to GDC. When you go to all the kickass parties at the hotels and every is tossing their jacket in a pile in the corner, just go ahead and hold on to yours. You'll save yourself the 40 minutes of looking for it when someone picks it up by mistake.

D'oh! I forgot that you lost your jacket last year, Scott. I've already been told to keep an eye on my laptop, since I got mine stolen in our PAX booth last year... T_T

Ouch, that's a lot worse than losing a jacket for 40 min (all that rain made glad it found its way back to me). I suggest a large chain, with an over complicated lock. Perhaps a growling pitbull as well, or just say P5 Glove to Mich and you'll get the same effect.

You are never gonna let me live down that damn device, are you Scott?

@Deborah

My booth is the one with all the computers at it. It will have a bunch of students who want to be Devs later on at it.

Man I wish I could go. Everything just has to happen on the west side of the continent doesn't it *sigh* Hope it all goes well and that we broke ass non-attendees will still get the skinny on the important stuff via blogs and so forth.

@Kory: We will be videotaping all the demos so you can watch them later (sans any technical details, keep your fingers crossed).

Eek! It's an hour until opening time, and it's been an exhausting 2.5 days in San Francisco, but I'm ready for this booth to be rockin'! BRING IT ON!

It was great meeting all of the friendly people at the GG booth today. Thanks to Matt for showing me the new Torque3D world editor. It is much more streamlined and user friendly than those of its predecessors. See you guys again tomorrow.

*jealous of all the people at GDC*

Someone must have taken a camera or something! Screens people, screens! Describe the demos at least. Dammit, the suspense is killing me.

Hey guys, just a quick update. The booth has been really packed this year, mostly thanks to the perfect storm of Torque 3D and Stickman, Perfect Dork, and Tandem Games showing off their great games. Just wanted to let you know that we've been doing less live demos than planned since it's easier to talk to people individually rather than do a big presentation, especially with our engines. However, we are still recording demonstrations in the booth, and they will be available after the show. Mich also hosted our first live chat today for those of you who couldn't make it.

Here's my favorite pic of the booth so far. It's that 3D model of the Torque logo I mentioned earlier in the blog:

Thanks to all who stopped by the booth today, both physically and digitally through the live chat. Hope to see more tomorrow!

(and @Joe: Yep, still got the blue hair. ^_^)
