GDNet: Tales from Journal Land

Welcome back faithful readers! I'm changing the format starting this week, keeping things similar to Mitten's daily news briefs by just rambling on about the various entries and linking as I go along. If anyone liked the previous format of bulleted lists (resist! all management people!) let me know in the comments.

So, on the development side of things this week, first we have an entry from Daerax, who's been spending the last week working on a discussion engine for his game. Be sure to page back to earlier days to get more details if you're curiosity is piqued. Then, phantom digs into the GL_EXTX_framebuffer_mixed_formats OpenGL extension for some interesting results.

Switching tack now, if you have more free time on your hands after reading the two entries above, there were a couple of products and demos pushed out by people this past week as well you can mess around with. Mittens has finally dumped Asplode out, after fixing some performance issues. Read back an entry for more information on the release. Another game up for play is from Mak, who posted up a link to the demo version of his casual puzzle Gemstars. For applications, BrianH linked to a website he's been working on called DrawGo.com, which lets you doodle with pixels and save your work to a gallery or order yourself a t-shirt with the image on it. If you missed the news item today, Metron has finished his SSCXML website. SSCXML which means "State Chart XML defines an easy way to describe a finite state machine through an XML file." Cool.

And finally, I'd like to announce the return of Wavinator, who many of you design forum lurkers and contributors may very well remember from the old days. It's hard to forget his novel-length posting ability. After falling off the face of the GDNet Earth several years ago, he's back at it again - C'mon Wav, you had to know you couldn't stay away from game devs forever

See you all next week!
