Plan for David "RM" Michael
by DavidRM · 01/03/2003 (1:18 pm) · 84 comments
Work on Paintball Net began again last night with our first 2003 team meeting. Very little was accomplished in December. But it was December. Very little ever gets accomplished in December...
Dug continues to work on our player database server. We plan to have at least a simple version of the player database running before the end of January.
Dave Astle is working with the player model data so we can determine where the paintball hit the player.
Lars is creating a library of map objects for use in making new match maps.
David Franson is working on the new player model, though we're going to need to find someone else to do the actual animating (running, jumping, etc.) as he is starting a new book soon.
Jeff's house caught on fire a week ago. He and his family are fine, but he won't be able to work on the project for a while.
And I'm going to start implementing the stores and player locker for the Ready Room.
More news as it happens...
Have fun!

Dunno what RM has planned for this one, but the original PBN was free for basic stuff. You started as a lvl 1, then registered ( gave them your e-mail addy )and they upgraded you to a lvl 2. As a 2, you got 25 games per day ( an admin could restet them to 0 for you though, which they did quite often ), a certain amount of total weight you could carry, you couldn't create tourny teams, or drop stuff on the ground or give money/stuff, or send money in notes to other people. Then when you paid $10 you were upgraded to a lvl 12. You got more games per day, more weight, could drop stuff, give money, create tourny teams...etc. Then for every $10 you'd get an increase in lvls ( 15, 20...75 ) with more games/weight per lvl. 79, 80, 85, 90, 95, 99 and 100 were admins. The cost was a one time only thing and once you bought the lvl you had it until the game ended. Also I don't think you could create and join teams ( such as GS! )..maybe it was just not create, it's been a while since I've played PBN. Anyways...that was just PBN, dunno what RM has planned for PBN 2.

What do you mean about the create and join teams? I was only a lvl 2 and I had my own team. Black Knights then the Imperial Navy (which the site was deleted off of Tripod because I put an image up and had it on my rom translation site.)

Wasn't 100 what Dug had. Then Dug left and RM was lvl 100. Then RM left and gave it to QTPie? 99's were the admins and wasn't 95 former admins or something? What do you mean about the create and join teams? I was only a lvl 2 and I had my own team. Black Knights then the Imperial Navy (which the site was deleted off of Tripod because I put an image up and had it on my rom translation site.)

99s were who all the admins reported directly to: QTPie
95's - Same capabilities as 80's and 90's plus they could rename EQ and Char names.
90's - Shutup and kick capabilities, tournies
80's start/stop games, tournaments
At the end of PBNet's tenure, all 80's were turned to 90's. A nd I believe only 95's could shutup and kick people in the end.
Now that I think of it, I'm not sure if 90's had the ability to ban or not...I don't think so.

Still...would love to see a 3D bot.

Guns and stuff. Did you ever play the orignal PBN? There wasn't specific brand names and stuff. There was shotgun and rifle. High-velocity (HV) rifle and stuff like that. There was also different paintballs along those lines as well. HV Paintballs and...free paintballs which were slower. The different weapons had different firing speed and accuracy and stuff. Different ammo had slightly different effects. Faster and easier to splat people who had tons of padding on. Grrrr that padding to the lvl 2 player using only HV Ammo. :P There were different types of paint grenades as well. They blew up in little 3x3 squares and stuff. There were also mines. Don't need to explain that to I? There were jetpacks and cloaking suits. Hoppers to hold more PBs. You had backpacks to store stuff. As said above there were lockers (something I wish I had. :P) Lots of stuff which I hope makes it into this new version here. Still...would love to see a 3D bot.

Cant wait for PBN 3-D!

Alright i know this game is going to be sweet but for you PBN players, play Shroom's PBN version to tide you over. hvpb.com is just like pbn only run by shroom. The game got boring for me. But many PBN'ers play this game.Cant wait for PBN 3-D!
