Today, InstantAction informed employees that it will be winding down operations. While we are shutting down the InstantAction.com website and Instant Jam game, Torquepowered.com will continue to operate while InstantAction explores opportunities with potential buyers for Torque. We thank all of our past and current customers for their support.

guys torque and now gamebryo......
Quote:SALE OF ASSETS OF EMERGENT GAME TECHNOLOGIES, INC.
Torque can be easily saved by following unity's path:
Quote:unity's userbase has skyrocketed from 13,000 to 260,000 licensees over 1 year after it took the udk path. As a company, Unity Technologies is in its fifth year, and just received the Wall Street Journal's 2010 Technology Innovation Award.
Just my 2 cents....

sudarshan thats adding all the people who downloaded the free version of unity which make them no money what so ever so that number is of no use. :P unity looks good though but i know i will need sorce so i can't go with unity if torque fails to find a buyer though for the game i working on now i think i can still use T3d for next game will have to find a new engine if torque has no buyer.

i know that brandon...thats just my suggestion..
Its will be hard to survive in game engine market if the company doesn't develop games using it side by side....eg: valve,crytek,id-tech...etc

Hey Brandon,

Yeah, we had a really great experience with Buccaneer on Steam for over a year, and we've already got pretty much all steam functionality integrated into T3D.

Good luck to all employees. I'll carry on flying the Torque flag until somebody uninstalls it from my PC.

Very sad news,

I have a question regarding licenes and sub licenses. I have a few indie licenses for torque via the on site shop houdini for one. Will that now be completely useless?

I hope all you at IA find new careers and a brighter future alot of respect to you guys.

Hello

I wish the best to all of you, the employees, the associativs and also for the community and all other devoted to the Torque technology.

If there is some buyer at the horizon they surely will monitor what the employees and community says and does just now. Let's show that we still belive in the technology and that it would be worthwhile to invest in Torque.

It's not over until it's over so i will stick around.

Best regards
Kaj

@All:

I've asked legals about license positions in case TP will shut down. This is the situation:

All existent licences (included third parties offers) stand as per the accepted EULA at the time of purchase.

Moderator: it's stands as per the last accepted EULA, which isn't always the same as when the purchase occurred.

Lots of engines selling reduced licences for Torque users, instead of jumping ship straight away (albeit good for other engines to increase their numbers), might be worth seeing where things go but no harm in having a backup plan.

@Giuseppe:

My concern is that third parties will change there agreement since torque does not sell anymore, as far as i can tell they reserve the right to change there EULA if needed or am just to worried to see straight?

Kind regards

Jonas, they can change the accepted EULA only if that doesn't limit your standing rights. I'm in EU so here we have strict laws protecting consumers, but I've no words from legals about geografic limitations so that has to be valid anywhere (they usually point out to me these stuff).

Why now opensource torque with a liberate license and try building a business around it (Professional Support, Commercial extensions), i have always found torque is a great thing, i hope it continues.

Truly a sad day...

All the best to all who were let go. You have done an admirable job to keep as abreast of what has been developing since the first time I signed up here. This place shall be sorely missed should there be no takers.

As for me, I shall continue my aspirations to develop a full-fledged game... be it with Torque or with some other middleware like Unity, Leadwerks, C4, Neoaxis, UDK, etc.

Long live TorqueScript!

I see a lot of engines offer discounts for Torque users. Unfortunately none of them ship the source code. Moving to Unity, Leadwerks, C4 or other is not a solution. These engines may have beautiful editors, easy to use interface , etc. but you can't extend them since they are selling without the source code. Without it you get stuck to just making first person titles, strategies and others and use only what is available and already coded.

I think things got a little out of control and things spread too far...but I sincerely believe that everyone at TP was trying to do the right thing for the community and customers.

I hope things pan out for all the staff at IA. You guys are an awesome lot...and I hope you're all able to bounce back from this.

Sad for the products...but nothing compared to the human impact. Good luck!

@Ivan: which are the engines that offer a discount price for torque users?

As long as the EULA is officially ok for us to continue developing then it's business as usual - when we will know this may not be until a buyer is or not found - until then I've stopped developing. If Torque does not make a return and I really hope it does, then the community will need to stick together somewhere else and providing that the EULA is relaxed for us to share source code Torque will then live on through the community. Guess we will have to wait for the Q&A.
