- Summary:
- I began coding in 1992 after I got my second computer, which had little or no games on it. To satiate my desire to play, I created. Roving the AOL QBasic forums I swapped games with a large assortment of other people, including some who were the same age as me (then 10/11). My first experience with modern programming languages came as I found QBasic limiting me. My dad acquired a full copy of VB 3.0 from one of his clients, and I began to play with OO and GUI applications. In the mean time I was also drafted to administrate the PBEM section of EverythingEmail.com (now sold). Here I learned HTLM and Perl, which also helped with my coding. My greater exposure to these games caused me to attempt to write my own. I then began to feel the limitations of VB, and so I researched C. The problem with C (for me) was finding a compiler. At the time many of the free compilers available didn't exist yet. After much searching I finally bought a book with a C compiler, and began to take C lessons at a local computer store. Branching from C I tought myself C++, as best a person could with a C++ in 21 days book. About 4 or 5 years ago I attended a computer camp (nerdy) where I finished my training. There I took a course on Computer Graphics (DirectX) and advanced C and C++ topics. The next year and the year after that I returned to teach all three courses. Teaching really rounded out my education, as the students asked questions that I had no idea of the answer, which forced me to learn more. Throughout all this learning I have created a huge ammount of Quake/Quake2 mods, none of which really worked. My greatest achievement however is Bellum Temporis, a completely home-grown, C++/OO Server, Java Client, PostgreSQL Backend, PHP Interface, MUD.
