2D, where have you been? I was SO worried!

I have decided something for my hobbyist career - I'm gonna go back to 2D. Oh and not for the Xbox Live Arcade either(I don't have a 360). Yeah, I know, that is SO 1994.

I have a real fancy idea for a pretty cool game, but my problem is - I'm in love with TGB. Why is that a problem? Well, I have the money of someone who lives in a small town where no one is hiring and has a couple of years left in school.

So I figured I best sell some stuff on ebay. I made about $40.00 and some loose change, good start. But then I made a huge mistake - I saw the "Buy 4 Graphic Novels get 2 Free!". So, me, the guy who loves manga, though "Hey, I'll see what they got in stock, I want the new...etc...". Well, to make a long story short(and not bore you with what my favorite manga are), I left with 6 Graphic Novels. I paid for only 4, $9.99 each. It was a great deal, but all I had was some loose change.

So, to sum it all up - I've been looking for a free 2D engine was a little more advanced graphics features then GM.

I've found a one I like-

Haaf's Game Engine

Also, I have heard of pygame, and am gonna look it up later...

Does anyone here suggest a free 2D engine with some advanced graphics features?

Peace fellow hobbyists, indie devs, commercial devs, and people with lives!

-Okashira out...

Do not fear Game Industry!

This was my post to the topic which can be found here - www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=55631

The topic was concerning this article - www.guardian.co.uk/germany/article/0,,1969920,00.html

Basically there is a bill in the process of trying to get passed in Germany(I have no idea how that works there) which will force people 12 months in prison for killing human beings or beings resembling humans in video games. It also forces the game makers into a 12 month prison sentence.

Here was my reply to it-

Quote:

I personally think it is tainting the memory of the people that have been killed by these pyschos. I mean, do you really think that the countless people that have been killed in school shootings would want everything blamed on ######## game makers whose games they probably played? Or do you think they would want the pyscho(s) that walked into their school and shot them cold-blooded?

This is just another example of the ages old "somebody needs to take the blame, but the person who did it can't take the blame!" problem. These politicians think that they HAVE to punnish somebody, so the only way they can think of is to pass laws and bills suppressing people's freedom(note - I have no idea what can of liberties Germans are given).

But don't worry! 20 years from now the generation that is in office will be the generation that grew up playing Quake and Halo. So, do not fear Game Industrialists(wow, I made up a word)! The future is not bleak!

And as a slighty edited quote from "The Aviator"...."video games are the way of the future... the way of the future... the way of the future... the way of the future... the way of the future... the way of the future... the way of the future... the way of the future... the way of the future..." (Note - he really said it many more times then that...I believe he went insane again in that scene, if I remember right...)

-Okashira

Why did I post this here? Because, I figured this site needed more useless blogs...useless blogs are the way of the future... the way of the future... the way of the future... the way of the future... Ok, I'm done.

-Okashira

Shotguns, Vehicles, and Headaches

The image above is what I was finally able to get whilst tweaking a shotgun model I got off of turbosquid. I am quite proud of myself, since it is the first .DTS thing I have ever done.

So now that I can get my weapons in Torque easily, I am working on getting the buggy from the starter.racing into the fps.starter as a mountable vehicle. Any tutorials would be appreciated.

And then to end this short post, I have an incredibly bad headache. Not sure why I am even on here since it is only making it worse...Must be allergies...

Oh, and I finally signed up for GGE. Here be my badge-

Well, heres to wishing GG or a Max user will release Kork in the 3DS format!

-Okashira

EDIT : Just to show you that what TGE 1.4 can handle depends on your hardware, that shotgun has 5916 polys, and it didn't lag ONE BIT.

Finally Making My First 3D Game

I've made quite a few 2D games in my past, so I have decided to move on - to the third dimension. I purchased TGE on August 22nd for hobbying and have since then taken some great tutorials(Thanks Codesampler!, modded the FPS & Racing Starter Kits, and basically just screwed around.

So, here I am - I have actually decided to start making a game with TGE. I have decided on something simple for my first - a basic platformer with some simple ai.

At the moment I am working on basic character design, and found that I actually had to learn 3d animation (gasp!). Let me just say one thing - anyone that tells you that 3d animation is fun should be shot. No, seriously.

Anyways, I hope to show some screenies soon, I just hope this thing turns out!

Wish me luck!

-Okashira
Game Development Hobbyist

My Goals

Here are my current goals-

1.Get better at concept art, especially manga and mecha styles.
2.Get better at 3d modelling, especially the ability create mecha.
3.Make my dream multiplayer mecha game that I have been designing in my head for years.
-Here's the unrealistic part-
4.Have a big enough community to get some guy to make me an anime based on my game, or atleast a manga(even if it is a one-shot anime or manga).
----------------------------------
5.And most of all, master TGE.

That's it...
