My plan on fathersdirect, going to IGC, seeing friends again, working with 21-6 and making a tutorial for TDN. Yes i have something to show this time.

It has been some time since I made my last plan, sorry about that but since Finn was born so much has changed in my live.

Almost all changes where good apart from the fact that I have less time to make art but that is a trade off I haven't regret a single moment yet. We are still very happy with Finn we are pretty sure we will keep him ;) I will save the rest of the "kid" talk for the fathersdirect plan and focus a bit more on my game dev stuff here.

Ok first, good new or at least for me it is. After a year of absence I will be at IGC again this year. I will be leaving for Seattle on the 4th of October and visit Danny Ngan. I'm sure Danny and I will be in Eugene on time to experience the IGC 2005 kick off. In Eugene I will be staying Joe and his great family for a couple of days. Than the train back to Seattle and flying home again on the 14th. Meeting up with all my friends again is making IGC even more interesting to me than any speaker could ever do. It's going to be good this year I'm sure.

The beginning of this year I Have been working with 21-6 production again on a NDA project which has been fun and rewarding. I was teaming up with Logan on that, very cool. Logan is a good friend, a hard worker and has great 3ds Max skills it sure was a pleasure to work with him. I'm sure that, as soon as they can, 21-6 will be showing off their project it should be interesting to see the final thing.

After my vacation Joe brought me in contact with Adam deGrandis who, as you might know from his plan, is working on the TDN. The idea was that I would be making a tutorial for TDN to give it some art related content when it gets launched. This kind of fitted right in with my own ideas. I have been planning to do a tutorial on how to texture a face for quite some time I just never got to it. Well now I did.

So far I just have to do a final pass over my texture to finish it. During the process of making the texture I took 70 screenshots so far and I'm not done yet, every step will be fully described. Tool settings, shortkeys, layer settings, and so on and so on will all be in there and explained as I work towards the final face texture. Apart from just working on the texture I will try to be as complete as possible. I will point you to important need to know information on how light works, human anatomy and collor theory. I also will try to go in depth on how to make eyes, mouth, nose, ears and hair. Like I said I will try to make it as complete as possible.

To give you an idea here are some progress pictures half the original size btw.

Although it probably isn't a document for guaranteed success I'm sure it is going to be an interesting read with lots and lots of information.

That's all for now I'll try to do next plan a bit sooner this time but if you can't wait for that you can always check on my BLOG to stay up to date.

P.s. I don't really have a plan on fathersdirect, it was just a joke. Yes a joke!!

A real plan this time

Finally a serious plan from me, i guess it’s about time…

First off let me get some things out of the way. I just returned from vacation, if any of you ever have the chance to take a trip to Canada, GO. It’s a great country I had a fantastic time there.

Currently I’m looking into getting my ass over to Eugene to be at IGC but the way it looks now I probably won’t be attending…. I just can’t seem to be able to keep all expenses within my budget. Biggest post in this is the flight ticket, Eugene is just a bit to far of from regular flights schedule from here. To be honest this pisses me of quite a bit.. I really, really, really wanted to be there and meet up with a lot of people I only know from all the chat and mail sessions I had last year. Besides that it would have been a good learning experience and a great opportunity to exchange a whole lot of creative ideas that just aren’t that good if you have write them down without the chance or the time to illustrate them. I didn’t give up yet but chances are becoming pretty slim.

Ok let’s get back to every day’s business, which for me is Realm Wars. First of all I like to thank Logan Foster for taking care of things while I wasn’t at my post. I’m still in the process of getting back into things, reading up on mail and stuff. This takes a little longer than I expected since they also had some nice surprises at the office of my job, so my excuse to all people who expected an answer from me by now, I’ll try to get it to you a.s.a.p. I’m not totally up to date with the latest developments yet but I know a fair bit from a chat session I had earlier this week with Phil, James and Logan, we divided some tasks and things are moving for me again so I hope to have some result early next week. With that being said let’s see if we can get some work done.

There are a few things I want to put on table and on which I would love to get some feedback.
Main point in this is trying to regulate incoming art content while maintaining quality and consistency without scaring of our contributors. I will be posting a topic in the Realm Wars Art forum soon which will address this stuff… This whole subject is kind of build up from a whole range of little problems I encountered during my first few months with Realm Wars. People submitting the same object, differences in quality and high quality work that isn’t consistent are just a few of the issues I would love to get some feedback on.

I also like to put some time into making garagegames a little more attractive to artists. I think all could benefit from attracting more artists to the community.. I will contact Garagegames about this and will try to get some input from the few artists we have so far.. No doubt I will put this up on the forum so you all can give your view on this…

Well I think I pretty much have my hands full again, so I’ll leave it to this for now hoping I can give you all a nice plan update in a week or 2.
