New TGB Work

My last blog contained old top down artwork I was releasing to the community. Check my last blog for screen shots, and download the psd files here: www.kingstonblue.net/psdrelease.zip

Instead of just posting a link to download the old work, I thought that I would post up the new futuristic counterparts as well. Below is an APC I am currently working on. It is almost done, I just need to fix some of the shading and textures as some areas are overly dark. Any feedback is appreciated and welcome.

A more futuristic design than the old work. The main improvement over the old work would be the use of textures instead of solid colors. The part that I like about this APC is the fact that the armor on the sides can be blown off when hit. If a rocket collides with the APC the armor at that point will be blown off, then the actual APC is exposed. This helps to show a damaged state and also adds a tactical element. The vehicle may have all of its armor missing on one side but not the other. Flanking and maneuvering around the APC becomes far more important. Aside from the fact that destroying the APC becomes more active, instead of just a game of numbers, the armor helps to break up the shape. The APC is really just a big gray rectangle. The armor adds many more angles and lines. It retains the original shape, but is far less boring.

Old TGB work.

My plan some time ago was to create a top down modern military shooter in TGB, T2D Alpha 2 at the time. I quickly moved on to other plans and this one fell apart. I was working on a similar game but with a Sci-Fi theme instead of modern military, when I opened up the old bunker image for reference. I realized that even if some things turned out similar I was never going to use this work again. Instead of letting this old work rot away tucked in a long forgotten folder on my hard drive, I decided to post it here. My question is, would anyone be interested in the PSD files or PNGs of this work. Below are images of the few assets I did work on before I quickly scrapped the project. These are the most complete images and probably the only ones of actual use for prototyping or whatever you can think of. The view is a a little different as it is perfectly top down not isometric.

The tank has a separate body, turret, and two machine gun mounts. The tank image can work with only the bottom machine gun (in this picture) mounted.

The bunker PSD has the base and sandbag layers separated as well as the machine gun mounts. The layers for the roof of the bunker and again the sandbags on the roof are also separate layers. The original plan was to be able to place the bunker, then build it up. The base layer without the sandbags looks a little odd. The main reason I'm not reusing this is because I decided to go with 8 sides instead of 6 this time around.

Nothing special about the hummer, all one layer. I was going to create a quick machine gun mount but stopped working before I got to that. The machine gun at the top of the tank picture could be mounted to the hummer though.

If anyone thinks any of this would be useful just post below, I'll watch the thread for a bit. If anyone is interested give me a few days to rename all the layers and host the files.
