Wow, GDC rocked this year and gee has the Garage Games name got out there. Most everyone I talked to had at least heard of us and on top of that a lot of awesome community members where there and stopped by, it was so great to see how the GG message is getting out there and how much the tools and community help people.

But to back track I haven't posted many plans and this will be only my second since becoming a GG employee, (best place in the world to work everyone is so awesome) so a quick note on who I am and what I do, I am Channa Langley, I am administrative Assistant as well as the Intern Coordinator here, but enough of that and on with the very colorful pictures and stories of GDC and back again.

It all began at the Eugene Train Station, where we prepared to board the train for the long 15-16 hour ride to San Francisco. Left to Right: James Willey, Adam Larson, Dylan Romero, Matt Langley, and Zach Zadell, I am the one taking the picture.

Then onto the train, note Matt like most GGers has to play with all the buttons and see what they do.

We Arrive and the fun starts:

Fritz (God Father of the Booth) Tim (well ya know) and we can all see how Davey feels about it LOL

Oh my gosh it's a Josh Williams sighting! 

Ben Garney takes a stand(on what we can only guess)

Tom, "Wow check out GGE!" and yea he was so excited he was side ways  LOL or that was just me not holding the camera strait

Tom Spillman, John Kabus and Russell

Matt Langley and James Willey find something funny.

Due to the amount of pictures I took I couldn't put them all in this blog. Well, lets not ask. I think everyone was a little to exhausted to know themselves.

But through it all Ben, Dylan and Adam had some bonding moments. (literally)

Tim is so excited to be on the subway to the train station!!

Sadly it all came to and end as we all hauled onto the train at midnight exhausted and happy to be going home, but was it fun and can't wait till next year!
Internships and Employment

GarageGames, Inc. is now actively seeking art interns for Spring and Summer of 2007. Interning at GarageGames is not only awesomely fun; it's a great way to get your foot in the door of the video game industry. The industry is a rapidly growing field in need of talented individuals.

The team at GarageGames will teach you the craft as practiced in the industry - you will be able to learn the particular way it's done here as well as all the possible ways to do it. Interning isn't glamorous, and it doesn't pay anything, but it's a great way to get the foot in the door, have some fun, and learn the ropes. Not only do you gain valuable experience in the working world, you will also make contacts in the industry that will come in handy when you are looking to secure permanent work.

The internship spans the approximate academic semester (February through June and June Through September). Interns are expected to devote about 15-20 hours a week for to their assignments. We are flexible on hours and scheduling exact dates. We also allow for academic development work and will work with interns to meet requirements for necessary credits or special circumstances.

All interested parties should visit our Jobs/Internships page for more information. This page is located here.

At GarageGames, we like having interns around because they always have cool ideas, fresh perspectives, and lots of energy. It's fun to bring new people into the office, and we can always use help with all the projects we have going. GarageGames is a small and intimate company, so you can always gain help and experience from seasoned industry veterans while working on real projects, not just be the "coffee" guy.

Interns at GarageGames get free housing located in Downtown Eugene, OR in our brand new GG Apartment (includes free cable net connection, utilities). The apartment is located right by the University of Oregon, and the area is teeming with things to do, nightlife, food, and general entertainment venues. The GG office is about a 20 minute walk from the GG Apartment. Parking is available for interns who have their own transportation.

Interning at GarageGames is also the fastest way to employment here. In the past two years, we have hired eleven interns who have come through our program!

Quote:

"As some of you know I graduated about 3 months ago and have since been interning up here at GarageGames. First of all if anyone is considering apply for an internship and debating whether or not it would be worth it, I highly recommend you do, if only for the added experience. In just a couple months you can learn a great deal as well as being up here with some awesome and incredible people (which I'm sure I don't have to tell you). Also GG lets interns work on some very cool projects as well as taking your input as serious as anyone's. Pretty much what you'd expect from GG."

Matthew "King Tut" Langley
GarageGames Hire

About GarageGames:
GarageGames mission is to change the way games are made and played. GarageGames provides the technology, community and market to empower game makers to build commercial quality multi platform games. Known for bringing the Torque Game Engine to independent developers for $100, GarageGames is located in Eugene, Oregon.

All candidates MUST have resumes.
Preference given to those who demonstrate a strong portfolio of finished projects.

We are currently seeking people who are looking to intern in the following fields:

Documentation Intern

Internship- Documentation

What samples should I send in?

These would be acceptable samples of your documentation work:

- Reference documents
A basic technical reference document. If you are creating something new as a sample then using something Torque based would be a good idea. Other examples of a reference doc are acceptable though.

- Tutorial documents
A general tutorial style document. Feel free to include very basic ones and much more advanced ones. Ideally keep the length very short, each step easy to read, understand, and do. Also, making the tutorials very "component" like (easily usable outside of the tutorial context) is a huge plus.

- Any other professional document that you feel represents your writing, communication, and evaluation skills well.

- Scripting samples (especially from Torque based engines) as well as any resulting games/mini-games/functionality samples. Such as a mini-game in TGB plus the script used to create it. Demonstrating a basic knowledge and ability to analyze and utilize development concepts displays a very useful skill for creating documentation. To detail something you usually must be familiar with it (or possess the ability to become familiar with it quickly).

What will a documentation intern be doing?

A documentation intern will be doing various tasks that are centered around the documentation to the Torque game engines. As a documentation intern you may be working on technical docs. Technical docs would encompass detailed reference docs for the engine, such as outlining functionality, methods, object names, console functions or any of the tools or API. You also may be working on tutorials, such as tutorial for TGB. While working on tutorials you will either be recreating existing projects/tutorials and re-writing them, or you will be creating new projects for the tutorials. Not only will this allow you to contribute to the over documentation base for the engine (which is one of the first things a user sees and utilizes while using an engine) but you will be learning about the game development frameworks provide. In some cases you may even be creating very simple games or game functionality to either document out in a tutorial or to test out functionality for a reference. Creating such mini-games or functionality allows you to learn quite a bit about the Torque technology while being very rewarding and fun.

To Apply for this internship Email to: internships@garagegames.com.

Web Programming Intern

Internship - LAMP Web Developer -- PHP, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, MySQL, Apache, Linux

Web developer internships require intermediate or advanced knowledge of web programming and basic system administration skills.
Revamping the GUI's for Colonial War 2021 our class final project

I have now after having got my base images in the game and working I have taken a step back to revamp the look of the GUI's to talior them more to our game and make them give the game more of a attitude and match the feel we are going for. where before it was not as clear for any of us the feel and the look of the game I had just taken some things from previous GUI's done for previous class projects that were similar but now I have gone back and started to rethink them and think I now have a better GUI, would love feed back from anyone. Always like to hear what others think and ideas and thoughts for my GUIs.

Before

After
