My First TorqueAT'Y adventures

Well, I bought TSE EA yesterday, and am very impressed with what I've seen of it so far, porting my project over was a little (well, quite) troublesome (recompiling difs was a bit tricky, but I've managed to mostly automate that now), but theres only so much you can do by using the Nvidia plugin on your old, low-res TGE textures, so as the artist I am I threw together a small test building to see how I found the Dif workflow. And it is Awesome, In the following picture I wrote two custom materials (the inside floor and the glass refraction) and use 512*512 normal maps on every surface, and am getting a nice 30fps on my 9600XT.

It took a couple of hours to get the textures ready and make the interior, but I'm satisfied with the results.

First-Person Adventure Ahoy!

Okay, I know I've said I was going to make a RPG, but I said "f*ck it" thats what everyone else is doing. So I'm going to start working on the game I've been planning since I was a kid - A Myst-style First-person puzzle/adventure game.

I'm starting with the TLK 1.4 base, I've added a modified version of the Cubix guy as the player model, and I've added the water shaders.
I'm not using TSE, as I don't want to overdo myself at this time. I've started writing a custom Shapebase class thing that I call the 'Puzzlepiece' system.
I want to make it very basic, the PuzzlePieces have a few parameters: Script, Value, Value 2 and Goal.
Script defines the script that connects it to other puzzle pieces, Value and Value 2 contain Integer numbers that need to be matched in the script for the Puzzle to qualify as Finished, and Goal points to the object that is altered by the puzzle.

I'm also adding a Dynamite system, Dynamite will be earnt throughout the game in side-puzzles, usually in clusters of three, and can be used to "Solve" difficult puzzles. The Dynamite does, however, Cause the player to lose health if they can't run fast enough.

I've added the 'Realistic' movement resource and It's working pretty well so far, for jumping gaps in bridges or just for immersion.

I'll add screenshots when I get to that stage.

Mince.

Man, Is Programming Tedious!

I've been working almost all night on my RPG (yes, I know, RPG's are never meant to be first games) adding TorqueDB and the RPG Dialogue resource, and refining as much script as possible from the FPS starter kit (breaking alot of stuff whilst I was at it). I added a few minor changes that ultimatly lead to nothing useable.
At around 2:30 this morning there was a short power outage - only for about a qaurter of a second, maybe less, so my DPS handled it okay (as in nothing shorted out and my PC didn't turn off). I'm looking into upgrading my PC (again), I just wanted to upgrade my video card, but I have an AGP K8NSNXP, and I need PCI-e for the 3D1 I want. Theres a limited editiopn pack that comes with a mobo for $600 AUD, but I'd need to buy a 939 processor, as I only have a 754.

Moore's Law will make fools of us all.
