HackIt Release and other things....

HackIt:

I am finally able to post some updates on HackIt, the 3D puzzle games I have developed in the past.
HackIt will be release shortly, as I have managed to finally find a publisher.
I haven't worked on the game for quite some time and am happy that it will find its way out of my door.

RealmWars2:

Some weeks ago we had an internal playtest for RealmWars2. Unfortunately we realized, that there is no more a strong interest in the game, so that we decided to stop the development until something happens (e.g. a publisher waving with some money or things like that).

New Project:
Since the halted RW2 projects freed up some resources, I have joined MaxGaming for a currently un-announced game. Obviously I cannot talk about this, but at least I can tell that I am much exited about the development. Expect a killer game as never seen before (Hint: the game is TSE based ;) )

FIFA World Cup 2006:
Last but not least I want to mention that the soccer world cup in Germany is about to begin in a few days. I am from Germany and am happy to see, that the whole country is beginning to vibrate in the light of the upcoming event. As a long time hobby player I am very pleased to have the event right next door. Unfortunately it is damn hard to get tickets, since the events are heavily overbooked, but at least we have a lot of outdoor parties going on during the games.

Haven't posted in a while.

So if anyone is interested, I am currently merging RealmWars2, with the latest Torque 1.4 codebase.

While merging is always a pain, I developed quite a routine by now. Hope to have the last "bits and pieces" fixed during the next days.

Just returned from a one week vacation to the USA.
We had a really great time and I ran the New York Marathon, my first Marathon by the way, in 3:31.59. Not bad for a hobby runner like me.

As soon as the jetlag is beaten down, I will pick up work on RealmWars2 again, as well as work hard to kick HackIt out of the door.

Project: Realm Wars 2
Work progress on RealmWars2 comes along quite well.
We are working hard to have a great demo ready for IGC.

If you haven't noticed it already: Logan posted a new screenshot over at
www.realmwarsgame.com/news.shtml.
Have a look and don't forget to comment the post, if you like to tell us something.

Project: HackIt
Not much news on HackIt at the moment.
The windows version of the game is finished, so that there is currently nothing to be done.
We are still looking for a suitable publisher and hoping to benefit from IGC. With the help of MaxGaming, HackIt will be shown at IGC 05.
(Big thanks to Adrian for his great help and support)

Besides my two projects: HackIt and RealmWars 2 there is yet another thing I just started:

Preparation for the New York Marathon 2005 ;)

Yes, that's right, as a hobby jogger/runner for many year now, I took the chance to make a dream come true.

I just started week four of my preparation and have already done over 225 training kilometrs.
(Just in case: We have the metric system here in Germany ;)

HackIt, the project I am currently working on, just made it to Release Candiate 2.
It's very stable now and really "feels" good.

The release shouldn't be too far away in the future ;)

Checkout new screenshots at: www.TheCoreTeam.de

Sometimes the internet is really funny.

Some days ago I posted a second Image of the Day announcing, that HackIt Release Candidate 1 was done.
The reaction to the post was kind of moderate, compared with a previous IOTD post, so I was a bit disappointed. I hoped to get a little more responses and a little more interest, what could have helped to make publishers interested in the game.
(Referencing to a hot IOD discussion over at the GarageGames board should be a good argument, aren't you thinking so?)
Since this did not turn out as expected, I was very surprised and pleased to see, that GamePlay Monthly features HackIt on it's main news page. They even did a dedicated page for HackIt, after our artist helped them out with a few screenshots and they are even offering the HackIt Trailer Video for download.

This made me cheer up a bit ;)

On another topic: HackIt Demo
I am currently extracting a two-level demo from the RC1 build of HackIt. The question I am asking myself is: Should I offer the demo as free download, even if we do not have a publisher?
Having the free demo at this time means that interested people are not able to buy the full version?

If someone has some opinions on that, please post up here or mail me privately. But only serious posts please. We all like to get games for free, but keep in mind that HackIt is a typical indie game. It will likely be cheap and I see nothing bad in the fact, that a little money from game sales helps to cover the upfront investments we did. Without a little bit of "Return on Investment" it will be hard to start over a new project.

On yet another topic: Realm Wars
Since we are closing down towards the HackIt release I am finding more and more time to continue work on Realm Wars 2, now taken over by MaxGaming.
If you want to keep track of the RW progress, don't miss the project blog:
www.realmwarsgame.com/news.shtml
or my personal Realm Wars Development blog:
realmwarsdevlog.blogspot.com

Have fun ... and stay indie ... ;)
-- Markus

Puh... that was hard....

It's slightly after midnight here and I just finished up the installer for HackIt RC1 (Release Candidate1).

HackIt??? What it that?. Just in case you do not know, checkout my previous IOTD post at www.garagegames.com/mg/snapshot/view.php?qid=985.

I am planning to post a new IOTD, as well as a more detailed .plan on HackIt, but first I need some sleep :)
(Did not get much of it during the last couple of days)

Stay tuned for more ...
-- Markus
