TGB Kart Kit

Cascadia Games
Versions:

The TGB Kart Kit provides a foundation for the rapid creation of retro 3D racing games in Torque 2D or iTorque 2D. It has been designed to run on Windows, Mac, and iPhone.
The TGB Kart Kit lays the technical foundation for a "mode 7" style racing game such as F-Zero or Super Mario Kart. The kit includes the example game "Cascadia Kart" -- a complete, published game with script, art, music, sounds and source code. Included documentation provides tutorials and instructions on how to modify the example game or build your own from scratch. Prototype your game within hours, instead of days or weeks. It is the fastest way to produce a multi-platform racing title. Don't have source? No, problem. The kit also comes with pre-built Windows and Mac Torque 2D 1.7.4 executables, thus Torque 2D Pro is not required to utilize this kit.

The TGB Kart Kit is fully optimized and tested on all supported Torque 2D platforms. Developers gain access to the TGB Kart Kit forum as well as direct email support from Cascadia Games.
Build your game in 2D and play it in 3D. The TGB Kart Kit comes with the script to quickly enable a 3D "mode7" view for any 2D game. It is 100% compatible with levels built in the Level Builder. Includes the example game "Cascadia Kart", a one time Apple App Store "Hot New Game" that contains the following:

  • Four karts: Cassy Bear, Ronnie Ram, Sammie Salmon, and Bernie Beaver
  • Five powerups: speed boost, slime spill, spring jump, apple shoot and shrink opponents
  • Nine tracks: mountain trails, island circuits, and more
  • Three game modes: Grand Prix, Time Trial, and Free Play -- plus automatic Mirror Mode
  • Shorthand functions for drawing sprites, scrollers, triggers, and particle effects
  • Animated effects: water splash, dust, and grass fluff
  • "3D" objects that rotate with the camera view
  • Upright and flat modes for sprites, scrollers, animations, and particle effects
  • Detachable camera can view the action from any angle
  • Waypoints and AI path points that keep racers on the road
  • Easy to use profiles to edit or create additional karts, tracks, or powerups
  • Lap tracking and racer ranking
  • Sophisticated HUD with speedometer, mini map, ranks, time, and pause
  • Speed ramps, jumps, shortcuts, and moving obstacles
  • Basic racer AI
  • Multiplatform music and sound wrappers
  • Steering options with tunable parameters: keyboard, iPhone touch, iPhone tilt
  • Engine tweaks for optimal performance
  • Thorough documentation with overview, tutorials, and iPhone optimization tips

Also included in the kit: pre-modified Torque 2D 1.7.4 executables for PC and Mac, as well as full documentation for users to modify their source code. The documentation includes how to modify Torque 2D 1.7.4 and iTorque 2D 1.3. The TGB Kart Kit is designed to run, without modification, for either Torque 2D and iTorque 2D. The script is clearly written, well organized, and fully commented.
The following are required for the best experience with the TGB Kart Kit:

  • Torque 2D 1.7.4 or iTorque 2D 1.3*
  • Experience with the Torque 2D Builder or TorqueScript
  • Experience with C++ helpful, but not necessary
*Older versions of T2D should work with the changes, but are not fully tested or supported.
