www.joemaruschak.com/test.jpgYet again, I did not realize how much time has passed since my last .plan.. we have been hella busy at BraveTree with a LOT going on. We finally found a block of time to concentrate on getting some almost done projects out the door. It is time to ship these things...

Well, the content packs we have been working on are actually honestly nearing release. These kind of got put on the back burner for a while in order for us to take on some contract work, work on dRacer and BoomBall, and miscellaneous other tasks essential to our business survival, but after the IGC, everyone has been cranking on getting these things out the door.

First up will be the girl pack. The 3dsMax version is done, and has been for a while.. the Milkshape version was done this week and gave us a TON of headaches.. it works, but there are a lot of workarounds that had to happen in order to make it work.. the Maya version is being completed as I write this. Documentation needs a little cleaning up and it should be done. This version will not have the motion capture data in it, but I have been working with Troy at Elemental Motion to figure out the last few little issues with the conversion process so that we can make this happen. The pack will have a few updates and additions the first few weeks after launch to add the motion capture samples and to pave the way for the release of motion capture packs.

Note that we know the character is highly stylized and probably not great for everyones games.. the intent here is that one will take their own mesh, stick in on the skeleton of the girl, delete the girl mesh, and get a custom character.

Tank pack will be second in line. This one is currently undergoing a cleaning up of the scripts and code so that it is in a nice installable package. It is all working in game.. and the intent is to get the Max, Maya, and Milkshape versions done for initial ship.

Two Tanks will be included.. an Abrams and a Sherman-ish tank. If these are not to your liking, you can set up your own tanks model using the included models as an example.

This will be one of the first art AND code packs to ship.. and we are crossing our fingers on this one that some of you will find it useful.

The last pack we will be shipping will be a Bundle pack of all of our 'first wave' shapes. This pack will pack all of the shapes up into one BIG super pack.. and this pack, as well as all the round one packs will be getting updates, fixes to the scripts, little additions and improvements AND additional file formats for users without access to 3dsMAX.

We have plans to extend and support as many applications as we can with all of our content packs.. and we are working with LightWave Dave Wyand (creator of the Looking Glass), Dark Industries, and James Urquhart (blender) to do the conversions. Not all conversions have been done for all packs.. but we are making efforts to do what we can to see that it happens.

If you need example shapes to learn how to construct your basic DTS shapes in just about any of the TGE supported content creation applications, this is for you.

additionally.. we have taken steps to Clarify the EULA that will be included with the new packs and updated on the older packs.. We had quite a few questions about the old EULA, so we wanted to make it easier to understand what you can and can not do with the packs.

I would like to get some feedback on it so if we have to make any alterations or adjustments, or if I need to explain it more, here it is:

lastly, I wanted to say that a big thanks goes out to Pascal Bos, who worked on the textures that will be included in both these packs.. he did a great job in providing us with super high quality textures.

Comments welcome..

Very slick. The tanks look great. Sorry to hear about the MilkShape headaches. "...it's like painting with a rock." lol Still remember that.

I always forget something. We have a few content pack shapes that we want done that we just don't have the time to get done right away.. if you are able to take direction, able to listen and respond to criticism, are willing to work on percentage of sales, and produce high quality work, we would be interested in talking to you. If interested, feel free to email me. Note that we are pretty particular and I am pretty demanding as an art director (Pascal may add some commnets on this later)

I think the Milkshape player is the best of ideas and although I'm building in GameSpace, would perhaps purchase it. If a set of generic moCap files could be applied to it, it would be a perfect NPC tool asset...my few pennies, :). Is the mesh in Ms3d the same as the Max file? that lovely AnimeDoll, ;), with the gun? lol, nice.

...and what exporter would you recommend utilizing this Milkshape source; sorry, so interested, but I think this one will become a good mover, since it's the best low cost tool available for quality content, ah, $.02 more...lol.

I want two of those :)

I'd perhaps scale the breasts on the girl down a touch :) but otherwise.. looks great to me :)

Hmm, now then, what other packs would I really like to see?

Cute animals pack (pokemon style pack)
Cartoon village pack

Hmm, cartoon textures pack would be cool too. Most people cant really do those too well.

I had a chance to see these packs in person two days ago and they really kick some serious ass! The girl pack is a must have for anyone wanting to work with mo-cap or even just wanting to customize characters in Torque past the Tork Ork, and the tank pack was just awesome to play with running stuff over. Very awesome!

I've seen these packs for a little while now, and they look sweet. I'm really excited about the skeleton in the girl pack, and the girl mesh and skin itself looks great. The tank pack also looks awesome. Look forward to seeing more stuff from you guys.

I was the one who handled the conversion from Max to Milkshape. You would not believe the hoops I have had to jump through! We've done the best we can inside the horrible limitations that Milkshape imposed on us but I think people will be happy.

It is the girl you see above with all of her animations.

We used the Milkshape Exporter Plus by Chris Robertson (who has been a huge help).
