Plan for Tom Bampton

Yes, it's that time again. Yet more procrastination resulting in yet another impromptu GID. This time we're back to 2D, and it's a vertical scrolling shooter. Nifty. Also, it's not finished. Heres some screenies:

(Why have a menu? Its reused art/code, other then the image which was drawn by Eric. It was actually less work to keep it then remove it.)

The art team was: Logan Foster, Matt Mitman, Thomas Glennow, Eric Elwell, Paul Malyschko and Nauris Krauze (we reused some of his art from Loot).

There was just me on code to start with, but I am worn out and have other things I need to be doing so I'm handing over the code to David Grace to get a fresh pair of eyes on it and to get it playable. If I have time on Thursday I'll revisit it then.

On the art front, this is pure 2D. Most of the sprites were rendered in 3DS Max, some hand drawn in Photoshop. The map is 2D tiles, and is editable with the Loot map editor.

On the code front, the engine we're using is Atomic, which is the engine born from the post-GID work on Atoms. It's still pure 2D using SDL, which is horribly slow. However, Atomic is holding up really well and on the most part the game feels smooth.

This team is quite possibly the largest GID team ever assembled, and its been a ton of fun. Where's the game going ? Well, lets just see where the it takes us once the remaining assets are done and the code is complete.

You trying to set a record for "most people to work on a single GID" or something :P

Looks kool, I'll catch you on irc soon to hopefully get latest build maybe?

Yeh, there's still not much to it. As far as I know, David didnt manage to get anything done last night so its sat in the same state as when I left it. I'll revisit it tommorow, hopefully will be able to at least get something playable going even if its just the boss.

I love the menu screen! Actually, I think the whole thing looks great, but the sketched look and feel of the menu screen makes me want to play a sketch shooter done in that style.

David, thats an interesting idea ... definately needs some thought. It's worth experimenting with to see how it would look and play. Bah! Now you got me wanting to make one! There goes any spare time I may of had between now and IGC :)

Hey Tom, sorry about that, I had something come up after work and wasn't able to get much computer time. When I did get back to the ole PeeCee, you weren't around on IRC and I had CVS trouble. Ack. I'll hunt you up on IRC today and see if we can't get this worked out.

The game itself; It's looking good so far. :)
