Glatte 2 In Development Screenshots!

by Kevin James · 06/23/2007 (11:28 am) · 10 comments

Glatte 2 is a vertical scrolling space shooter currently being made with TGB 1.1.3 and it is the sequel to the original Glatte which was made with the Pre-Alpha version of T2D. (You can find Glatte on the Great Games Experiment. You can find a small development clip in my profile on the GGE as well!) I've been working on it since before the beginning of June. At this point I'm still working on some of the game mechanics, but I'm getting pretty close to being done with them. To prove that I've been doing something for the last few weeks, I got some sweet screens for your viewing pleasure:

The player is pretty much fully functional. There is leftwards, rightwards, upwards and downwards movement for the player as well as ion repeaters. Eventually I hope there will be different weapons that the player can pick such as lasers, plasma launchers, ect. Right now I'm working on missiles for the ship.

Thus far in Glatte 2, I have three different kinds of enemies: eggs (Known as shieldstickers to most human pilots), drones and soldiers. Shieldstickers are pretty self-explanatory, they attach themselves to your shields (if you have any) and suck the power out of them. What is not so apparent however, is the fact that if they drain enough shield, you can use them as bombs against your enemies.

CHARGED SHIELDSTICKER:

EXPLODING SHIELDSTICKER W/ COLATERAL DAMAGE:

The drones and soldiers are simpler as of right now. Both drones and soldiers charge toward the player and bite him, but soldiers can shoot spikes too and they are bigger, meaner, and tougher. Soon there will be different AI for them including formations and different behaviors.

SOLDIER SPIKES:

Alright folks! That's as much of a scoop as you are going to get . . . for now. Suffice to say that work on Glatte 2 is going well and I'll probably be releasing a demo in about a couple weeks. Before I go, however, I'll leave you with a few screens to leave you guessing!

Hey thanks Leroy! Sometimes screenshots of particle effects don't come out too good, but that one sure did!

Quote:I thought a butt load of screenshots was the key to getting feedback. Now I know better. I must type in all caps.
Either that or screenshots/posts of freebies or a tool/kit that help's 'OTHERS' make 'THEIR' game(s), it still seems to be an overall developers market here (even with the advent of GGE and the shop).

Although it's still possible to get low feedback anywhere (project appeal, timing, place, popularity etc), you may get good (as well as constructive criticism) levels of feedback at the indie gamer forums if you haven't posted there already (just remember to put [feedback] in the title! Perhaps that's what I did wrong last time?) I got loads of useful feedback on 'Imitate' there and I think it will make a big difference on future product sales/distribution levels. :0)

This is your second game, that is quick. I like the 3rd screenshot. I think If you change your
main character to look similar to your other characters ( example: Morzog Drone ), then you
have a cartoon style space shooter.

Thanks for the ideas, Leroy, I appreciate it.

Kefan,

This is actually my third project that I have developed with TGB. First Glatte, then Shellcore, now this. Shellcore and Glatte were pretty small scale projects. After I am done with Glatte 2 I will probably be revisiting Shellcore as well.

Thanks, though I'm not sure what you mean by changing my ship. I used similar techniques in creating both the aliens and the ship, except I didn't texturize the ship any. I think you may be right though. The ship may be just a little too generic, that's probably the problem. None of the art is set in stone, and sometimes I like drawing better than scripting.

Thanks for the feedback!

@kevin, what I mean is to change the "style" of you ship to something similar to your alien character,
for example this cool image: www.garagegames.com/images/uploaded/imag.16141.alienship.jpg.
and also, you may change shooting some kind of "green bubbles" or "white bubbles" instead of missiles.
This is just my quick thought. Here is image from google(green bubbles):

Kefan,

Very interesting. I never thought about aliens versus aliens. my profile pic is actually from the aliens in the original Glatte.

David,

Yeah, Glatte 2 is blowing the original out of the water so far . . .
