Import Starsiege: Tribes .DTS files into Maya. How?

I am trying to use .dts files extracted from Starsiege: Tribes in Maya. Unfortunately as far as I have read this is impossible, as no conversion tool exists to do this.
After searching the net and the forums here, it would seem that some people are even opposed to such a conversion existing.
I will take this opportunity to say, that with the upcomming relaunch of Starsiege: Tribes, there will be renewed interest in modding for this game and the .dts format. And that the inability to access .dts files in 3rd party modelling programs is entirely nonsensical.
No-one should have to re-model (to mod/improve) from scratch an asset which already exists. In Tribes we are able to modify scripts, graphics and sounds by exporting and altering them. Why the hell is .dts locked down tighter than a fat guy in spandex?

Most of the source art was made available for free nearly 10 years ago.
What really sucks is the lame tools needed in order to create new DIS shapes (Interiors).
