quark4torque or Quark

You know the old saying: Dont fix it if it aint broken right? Well quark4torque works just fine , so what is the benefit of using quark 6.3.0 final?
is it the same to set up as quark4torque?
I have mine nine year old interested in mapping and was wondering if we would be better off using the offical quark

There's some nice information there Matt. I was trying to get Quark 6.3 working with Torque this weekend. Finally got it, but wish I'd seen your link before that :)

Quark4torque was done to help the TGE community before these additions were officially part of the quark release. So move on to the latest quark, because as Matt says, there are many fixes and some new tools. There will be no future versions of quark4torque.

Alright out of the box this isn't set to Valve 220 map format...
Configuration -> Games -> Torque -> Output Map Format -> Valve 220

Look for the box in your configurations that says "Use Intregal Vertices as Threepoints"
I think its the last box. Make sure its checked. If not thats why your probably getting the error. At least thats been my experience.
Hope that helps

To turn on the viewpoint helpers go to:
options>Axis XYZ letter indicator in view windows

FYI guys: There is a new patch for 6.3 final. It fixes up some problems with the prism maker, and (really cool in 3/4window view) adds some graphics to each viewpoint to let you know what axis your working on.To turn on the viewpoint helpers go to:

Cool, thanks for the info/links,we will be converting , i notice in quark4torque the dif.exe is a dif_debug.exe can i use the latest compiled dif from a HEAD torque or would i be better off using the debug one that was in quark4torque?

Forget Quark4torque. It was something Desmond created so that torque developers could use Quark immediately and not have to wait for the stable release. It is not a special version of Quark. It is a pre-release of 6.3 with some extra data files. Those same data files are now in the official Quark release. Beyond copying and pasting configuration settings, there should be no need to "convert" at all. It's the same program, it's just a newer version.
You can use whatever map compiler you want. You can use the old version, you can use a version from the CVS HEAD tag, you can use Josh Ritter's new radiosity solution, too. It all depends on what you want. The tool supports it. You only do yourself a disservice by sticking with older versions.
Sorry for the little rant.

Okay, maybe this isn't being made clear enough. I've heard this come up in debate more than once lately. I'm really surprised that this seems to be a popular question, to tell you the truth.Forget Quark4torque. I use the marbleblast map2dif. Just rename it. Its alot quiker and more accurate. The build map2dif give me some flaws sometimes. You can also export maps that use floating point numbers. Not sure if the build one allows that or not.Matt

Yeah, I haven't have time to find out why CVS map2dif RELEASE complains about orphaned polys while DEBUG does not... DEBUG map2dif with radiosity calculations is right out... :)-J

Mathew:The link to the map2dif on your webpage is not working. I am having some problems with the HEAD version. Where I can get the Marble Blast map2dif?

I'll sacrifice floating point anyday for Joshua's cool radiosity! But I also expect map2dif to have both rad and floating point in the near future. :)
