I'm always seeing the same ideas here at GarageGames. Everyone is trying to make MMORPGs and never finish. What happened to FPS, adventure games or fighting games? On top of that all the ideas are the same. I'll give 50$ to anyone who can explain why everyone has the same ideas.

Our title is is an FPS one. Our team is complete and we will hopefully be releasing a demo at FragMart (the largest LAN even in British Columbia) this August round the 24th.

Okay people do have new ideas, but why do you hear nothing about games other than MMORPGs in the forums? When the topic is completely different people always mention their MMORPGs like they're bragging about some game that never gets finished.

It's true, we are getting saturated by MMORPGs. Many people believe that online gaming is the future. I personally think it will merely share the future. There will always be a place for single player games IMO. That's why I'm making a single player game that breaks ground in the genre...hopefully, itll prove my point one day...if I could only find a programmer....

Have any indie MMOG's been finished and had a full public release? I sure can't think of any... but I can think of tons of them that disappeared into thin air.

Yeah.. its because MMORPG's are the new big thing. Not everyone realizes how complex they are to make.. and those same people want to make one because they play them and like them, and think they have a great idea.Have any indie MMOG's been finished and had a full public release? It is sorrowful to see a project dropped though, and I would have no problems helping anyone see the light a little better, considering they have a solid design and, more importantly, the will to match my own efforts. It's true that many people prospecting their ideas lack the skills to do much work on them, but again, that's what this community should be focused on instead of ignoring (not to sound bad, but I think we all have had the "Newbie Blues" at one point). Myself, I'm a designer and an artist, with little programming experience and no overall experience (other than recent), and I don't have any finished work...
...but that's why I'm here working with what I can, and thus far I'd say I've been pretty helpful to a few projects, most notably Realm Wars.
Again, I'll also note our friends at BraveTree and 21-6 as a wonderful example of teamwork! We could all learn from their example.

So you know, I'm working on games that cover all kinds of new genres as well as an MMORPG (or 2, hehe...), and in a year or so I hope you will see some very detailed progress. I won't be giving up on any of these plans, especially now that I'm actually seeing some light at the other end of the tunnel. It is sorrowful to see a project dropped though, and I would have no problems helping anyone see the light a little better, considering they have a solid design and, more importantly, the will to match my own efforts. The game ideas my writer thinks up could make an MMOG, but we know better than to have that be the main feature. It's good to have MMO fetures in a game, but not as its main focus.(you know like have a version of the game be single player and another be online)

I think the MMORPG model presents the closest to what most people would want to play in a game, since it can be related to real-life more. Games are good, but they're better when they're more social... and for the moment that means more people ;)
