Ligtwave bone export problem

by Paolo Parrucci · in Torque Game Engine · 02/19/2003 (6:04 am) · 6 replies

Hello.
I've got a problem exporting a single skin mesh with bones from lightwave.
I've set up bones and weights and in LW the animation plays without problems, but when I load the DTS every bone is in the wrong position and moves awkwardly, and the model itself is distorted.

If I export a segmented model (positioning every segment so that its pivot is at 0,0,0 in modeler) I got no problems.

Am I missing something, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks
Paolo

Greetings!

What version and platform of the LightWave exporter are you using?

hi.

I tried the new beta release, and the problem is not gone.
I think there is something wrong in the way I rig the character.

Are skelegons allowed? There is some required way to set the weight maps?

So far I've only be able to export a non "scrambled" model, but its bone animation doesn't match the one set in LW.

I suspect I've got a problem with the bone Pivots and the weight maps, but cant' find out what. I've also tried to bone my character directly in layout, but nothing changed...

Greetings!

Hmmm. When I built the exporter, I tried to make it bone rig-neutral.

It shouldn't matter if you use skelegons or create the bones directly in Layout. I know of some others that have successfully created a single mesh boned object and had it work as a DTS.

So, there must be something with your particular setup that I haven't accounted for. If you'd like, feel free to send me your object and scene for me to take a look at. My email address is in my profile.

hi! I didn't reply earlier cause i got the flu and i was away from my computer.

I did check my model, and tried the plugin on an older version of the LWO and eveything worked fine, so I think was my model that was corrupted or had problems.

Thank you for your quick help!

By the way, now that i'm able to use it fully, I must say that you did a very good job with the plugin
