Swapping views

I am sure I will figure it out, but usually this helps.
If anyone can give me tips aged of schedule, just to help jump start my progress I would really appreciate it.
I am doing a 2D Scroll (very cheaply right now) and I just want by guy (hero) to have a look "left and a look "right.
Can anyone point me into codal directions?
as I say I am looking but a quick answer to save research time would be svwell.
