If your chains are the only thing that requires sorting you might want to detach them from the main object and make them their own mesh (upon which Sort is applied).Logan

I'm also having problems with sort. I'm trying to make a fern plant with 5 leafes, should I not group these and use "SORT:fern" ? but rather "SORT:leafe_a" , "SORT:leafe_b" , etc? and export the model like that? ,, Im gonna try both ways, didn't think to try this before :/ or is there something else I should actually be doing here?

here's the wire

Leslie.. you have to use two : not just one..
like this, SORT::

Our modellers had a lot of problems with this too.

Even the trees in the BraveTree treepack have sorting problems (on the pinetree its obvious, specially if you replace the texture with something else), so I'm sure this is not the modellers fault. Our modellers had a lot of problems with this too.

O and to make them their own object, make editable poly, select the polygons for the object you want to make its own, and click detach ... thats for max and it looks like thats what your using, though if it is milkshape im not sure.

take the wood frame and make that its own object, the two stone bases and make them their own objects, chain its own object, and the sign its own object, then link them all to a dummy object of any name you choose, then link that dummy back to the dummy Shape, see how it works. if that doesn't help, i can give you some more specific things you can do to help the sort problem.O and to make them their own object, make editable poly, select the polygons for the object you want to make its own, and click detach ... thats for max and it looks like thats what your using, though if it is milkshape im not sure.

Here are a few things to keep in mind.
Transparent (and traslucent) objects are handled differently than normal objects in regards to how the engine handles the drawing order. If your object does not need transpaency, don't use it. The most common problem is to have one material on a number of objects. If a part of the object does not not need to have transparency, it is a good idea to use a different material for that part of the object.
If you are having problems, try breaking the object into smaller parts. Don't make the shape one big mesh. Link transparent parts to a parent object.
There is no cure all for transparent objects. There will always be sorting issues and you have to treat each on a case by case basis. There are things you can do to minimize the effect of bad sorting, but it takes some trail and error.
It would be a good idea for anyone havng problems with sorting to read this section of the exporter documentation.

The SORT parameter wasd never meant to be a catch all solution for all sorting issues. It performs a specific task, spiltting polygons to create a mesh that will effectively self sort. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

I sent your file back, it should be ok to export now, take a look at how its linked, and read the Documentation above, it will explain alot.If you want to take some screen shot on how it turns out and post them ill be more then happy to explain to you what i did, and maybe ill will help other people out too

It din't work at first but then i did as you said, on texture for the chains with transparency and one for the sign without transparency, and then it worked.
thnx again
here's the result:

I think your off to a great start, and i could show you alot more on what to do ... you definatly have a good artistic background and right now ... if you planed it out or not you have a great sence of the objects you build and how to make them low poly.
If you want some basic concepts and insights on how you should model i can definatly show you how, though, i would love for you to send that model back with a colison mesh, it will take you no time at all, and i could help you out with your texture map.
If any one else needs any kind of help just e-mail me !

Thats great im glad i could help you out ... i have to say you did a great job though with making it a low poly object, compared it to what i changed from yours to what yours was like, its not much, just turn a few edges and some other minor changes. did you change your texture around at all ... like taking out the second side of the sign you have ? , that could really optimize what you have.I think your off to a great start, and i could show you alot more on what to do ... you definatly have a good artistic background and right now ... if you planed it out or not you have a great sence of the objects you build and how to make them low poly.

what you want to do is edit your geometry, so that there arn't objects in one another, there may be some other problems with your file aswell. do you have your objects grouped ? that could be part of the problem.
