T3D pricing discount change!?
by Pierre (DragoFire) Hay · in Torque 3D Professional · 06/01/2009 (2:58 pm) · 21 replies
Can someone please advise why the pre-order price has changed today??
I was about to purchase T3D today (first bank day in NZ), only to find out the prices have changed from $505 USD on Monday my time to $605 USD today.
I'm very confused and upset, as I have managed to get the fund to buy T3D @ $800 NZD and now it's over $900 NZD.
Please advize.

@ Alex, I have no problem with that, other than 1st of June is today, your time, and the 31st was Monday my time, which would have been fine other than a bank holiday was happening! :(

Well, we had messaged that the discounts would be decreasing the closer we got to release. Then Brett's blog on the 21st confirmed it, giving everyone about 10 days to take full advantage of the discount. Still $100 off for pre-orders, which is better than nothing.

There was also a newsletter sent out on Friday (29th) reminding people of the change.

$100 USD may seem small for most in USA, but us poor non-USA developers it hurts alot.
I'm talking about a change from $785 NZD last night to $940 NZD this morning. But I'm stuck due to a bank holiday on the end of month.
I guess I have to wait to hear back from GG by email and if bad news will have to wait again to save up the difference.
Timing again! Last time the exchange crashed and pushed the price from @ $600 NZD to over $800 NZD, and a it's taken this long to save up the diffence from then.

you said in this thread , post number 12, dated 05/27/2009 (2:03 am), that you did install it couple of nights back, yet you ask now about the discount? indicating you havent bought it yet? and how the access here? T3D is not listed in your products?
just asking

People in my private test group have access to the T3D forums.

Ken you bet me to the punch! :)
So yes I have T3D installed, and running. But wish to have full access once released.

if it means anything tho, the US doller is heading back to its worthless state of about 2 years ago, if i were you i'd keep checking the exchange rates :)

well, most of us had to pay to actually test and view the early versions, i bet most here would love to have been able to play without paying :pif it means anything tho, the US doller is heading back to its worthless state of about 2 years ago, if i were you i'd keep checking the exchange rates :)

Private test group. Funny. And here I thought that was the reason for the "early adopter" purchase.

@Joe Not sure its worth getting worked up about the concept of a private test group. I'd think of it as Kenneth being able to get further, focused testing on the features that he's working on. You and I as early adopters can use whatever areas in the engine we want to, with no expectation or stipulation of what and where. Its a positive to us in both cases.

Hm why does it matter if it's a bank holiday, credit cards work every day :-)

The private test group is used by Ken to test that the builds that they release for the Betas actually have all their bits and pieces and work as they should. They aren't (to my knowledge) sitting there hunting for bugs, just checking to ensure that the builds that are released function as needed so you guys don't get a dud that won't function due to a particular checkin to SVN or whatnot.
@Michael
I will assume that you live in the US and thus haven't been screwed over before by a CC company with a shitty exchange rate when buying something in a foreign currency. Essentially to sum it up, your CC company can use whatever exchange rate value within the month that gives them the best profit. So even though the exchange rate might be 1.2:1 the day you buy it, the CC company can choose a 1/5:1 rate that say happend for one day in the middle of the month. As such its not always in a persons best interest to use a CC and thus they will go with a draft or money order instead since the exchange value is locked in at that point.

Here in switzerland they have a timeframe of a few days starting the day of the actual transaction within which they have to do the conversion. Thats especially to rule out such "shady" betrayal-like practices.
Best check your CC contract as it is mentioned there.

As for the timeframe: that depends on the country.Here in switzerland they have a timeframe of a few days starting the day of the actual transaction within which they have to do the conversion. Thats especially to rule out such "shady" betrayal-like practices.

You thought wrong, Joe. The test group is something completely different, as Logan mentioned, and has been around for several years now, helping out behind the scenes and just in general being great guys. I'm sorry you're unhappy with your beta.

As Logan has said exchange rates changes the prices for everyone outside of the USA.
As an example; the per-order with TGEA discount-upgrade which was $505 USA, but in NZ on day of release has been @ $890 NZD($1 NZD = $0.52 USD). And the current good exchange rates the new $605 USD is equal to $960 NZD ($1 NZD = $0.63 USD), just to show the effects of exchange rates.
As most of the GG community are small developers, and this can be a large amount of money to raise, some are not effected as badly as others, due to exchange rates or personal situations.
Just a side note, the Friday news letter may not have reach everyone. It appears when GG site was updated not all members were not moved to news letter receive group, may be a small bug or over sight!? I personally haven't seen a news letter since the letter about the pre-order release of T3D.
I hope this is only a small group effected.

No I'm not in the US, and never had the problem you mentioned with exchange rates, worst case it's the one from the day before used (and I have credit cards in 5 different banks), but I guess that can happen yes
@Pierre
I'm not receiving any newsletter either

@Robert Lee: I'm not worked up. I was just curious. Kenneth provided a typical GG-style, tactful reply. Thanks.
