iTGB 1.3 Planning

by Michael Perry · in Torque 2D for the iPhone · 06/01/2009 (5:50 pm) · 212 replies

The iTorque Updates Blog contains the iTGB Roadmap, which announces plans for v1.3. Here is a recap:

iTGB 1.3: The highest priority is upgrading the engine to work with the 3.0 OS and SDK for iPhones. This includes compatibility and integrating the new features.

* Compile iTGB against 3.0 SDK, with GCC 4.2
* Full motion video playback, with examples exposed to script
* Displaying pictures from device library
* Playing music from device library
* Camera access from device

In addition to 3.0 compatibility and new features, the following improvements to the base engine will be made.

* Integration of Melv May’s memory reduction code
* Significant load time reduction
* PVR for cell-based sprite sheets
* New iPhone features exposed to TorqueScript via C++ handlers
* Gesture callbacks for swipe, pinch, and zoom
* More documentation on creating optimized games, using iPhone specific features, and general reference to frameworks (engine code)
* Community member contributions
o Vibration by Dave Calabrese
o Loading and saving game data to device by Dave Calabrese
o Multi-Touch and gestures by Dave Calabrese and Justin Mosiman
* General optimizations that will increase fps

Please use this thread to post feedback about the upcoming features, or 3.0 specific functionality you might be interested in. Try not to clutter this with current bugs or 1.2 issues, which are addressed elsewhere.

I logged in to the irc and it was a total waste of time.
The chat room is full of other users chatting about baseball or some other urgent issues.
It thought I was logged into ustream.tv

Thanks for that.
I kind of guessed that as I couldn't see any posts about what's going on and from previous experience from these guys, 9 times out of 10, it's a case of saying something to keep the customers quite for awhile longer.
I'm just great-full that the other users are so supportive of each other or it would be a total waste of money.

It's time to move on to bigger and better things like the Unity engine. E-mailed them directly and low and behold, an offer for a friggin iPhone trial if I was satisfied at their regular demo. Try before you buy, man I wish I had that available before pre-ordering this engine.

With the way Apple handles its iPhone OS, any engine that supports them needs regular on-time updates. Like when Unity's apps began acting up on a new OS version, they made an update quickly, even faster than a Torque employee posting a blog.

By the way, you still have advertised features that are not supported yet.

- Powerful scripting language with thorough optimizations for rapid script execution (Not true, expect your app to go to a screeching halt if you just use scripts even on rudimentary apps, especially on first gen iPhones.)
- Touch screen gesture recognition (Yeah right.)

The IRC chat and hints of a blog post might be a joke, but false advertisement isn't. In about 30 days I need the money that I gave you guys in good faith back. I'll be more than happy to wipe iT2D formerly known as iTGB from my hard drive, forever.

Guys, I started a thread over here... www.garagegames.com/community/forums/viewthread/104423
... to discuss this exact issue. Let's chat there so we can keep everything in one place and have maximum exposure to all T2Di users.

1. I'll message Brett now and ask about the blog
2. I'm always in IRC, username "mperry". Just use my name when you ask a question and I will be notified

@Eyal: You've got to live on IRC, really. Just popping in will give you a glimpse of the current conversation. And do ask questions when it's busy (which isn't morning US time) :)

Alright, if you and Mich are there I'll give it another shot. there was just way too much noise for me to keep up. None of the noise was related to Torque so it seemed like a waste of time.
Well... looking back.. it was a Fri evening so maybe that explains it :)
