Torque 3D beta customers have no TGEA private access :-(

by Peter Mowry · in Torque 3D Professional · 05/21/2009 (7:43 am) · 18 replies

I am obviously in the Torque 3D beta ($800). But I am new and I had not owned TGEA ($295).

I am finding that some areas of garagegames.com are marked as private access due to TGEA, even though I have a Torque 3D license.

I am finding this annoying for 2 reasons...

1) It looks like useful stuff, especially since there is more stuff out there categorized as for TGEA than for Torque 3D, seeing as Torque 3D is new. Yet, Torque 3D is just the newer version of TGEA, so this private TGEA stuff has overlap and could be helpful.

2) If I had purchased TGEA for $295, then I would've had a $295 discount for the private beta. If I had known I was going to have accessed blocked for TGEA, then I could have just purchased TGEA $295 then Torque 3D beta $505. The reason I just went straight to Torque 3D $800, is because I am new to torque and I didn't know this was going to block my access from TGEA stuff.

Please help :-)

If you go to the TGEA page, does it give you the option to 'upgrade' for $0.00? Because, IIRC, after I had purchased TGEA, it allowed me to 'upgrade' to TGE for free.

you did not purchase TGEA, you dont have access to its private forums.
you purchased T3D, you have access to its private forums.
what you purchase, is what you get access to.

EDIT, wow, zoidy posted as I posted. never knew about that option

@deepscratch: my problem was that both are $800:
A) TGEA for $295, then Torque 3D for $505
B) Torque 3D for $800

I went with B because I am n00b, and didn't know that it was going to AYBABTU me

[Edit: both $800, AND available in the same time window. In fact, right now, you can do either A or B]

@zoidy: I don't see this. I click "Buy Now", and it says $295 still :-(

well Pete, looks like you made the wrong choice there.
when I first purchased torque, I got TGE, then 10 minutes later did the upgrade to TGEA.
I did it like that 'cause I wanted the source code for both, the forum access was an added bonus for me, right choice, I guess.
maybe you can talk to GG about it? they seem like a nice enough bunch, maybe they'll help you out....

Either way, One point that needs to be brought up. How will they be handling this officially (this needs to be addressed as well with the Basic License) Will they also get TGEa private access. Which effectively also means they get to see source. There seems to be a few catch22s that see this code just sliding out the door, as it is the TDN is available to anyone with a GG accounts (which includes source code)

I went straight to TGEA back then and found out about the 0.00 upgrade TGE by accident later - so i have both.
Also have free Torque X 1.0 and 2.0 Binaries. Wonder if there will be a 3.0 also

@Peter
Maybe that will be availalable to you AFTER T3D released - then again maybe not - I am with DeepScratch on this - You should talk to someone at GG

TX binary have been free since start
The TGB editors for TX were what cost or if you wanted access to the TX sources (-> TX Pro)

They have gave access to TGE forums in the past for those who purchased TGEA. You should just contact them about getting access. They tend to be very reasonable about it.

Wewt, I just now did the "upgrade to TGE" for free... so now I have the lastest TGE. My, what you can learn from reading the forums.

I'm sure that they'll either fix it so that TGEA is the same way at some point (probably in not too much time)... if they don't fix it for you soon manually :)

@Peter
I did just what you did, dropped GG an e-mail and they added TGEA and TGE to my list of products (and some tool I forgot the name of)...

@Michael:

free tools too?

Maybe should be careful about announcing these things, or else they may get 1000 emails saying "please send me the free tools that you gave to the hampster"

Thanks for the replies all, I will try ask GG :-)

@Peter, you may be able to email GG and have them switch your purchase to be TGEA + T3D upgrade, since it's the same price and such. I agree that it would suck to not have access to TGEA forums or resources, since there are a TON of things that would be nice to grab and port to T3D.

Edit: D'oh, others already beat me to it :p They need a delete post option.

this issue was resolved by contact GG

they didn't add any free tools like the hampster though :-p (such as ShowTool Pro, or Torsion)

apology about forgetting to post this earlier

Torsion isn't free for TGEA

Arghh...sorry about this guys. I'll make sure we get it fixed soon. The intended result of buying Torque 3D is that you have access to both TGEA / TGE forums and downloads. It's just not yet automatically hooked up to Torque 3D ownership.
