Any Portland, Oregon GG people?

by Spencer Boomhower · in General Discussion · 02/04/2003 (7:01 pm) · 51 replies

This same question was posted once, long ago. Now that I've moved to Portland, I'm curious what the current count is. I know there's a concentration of devs in the Eugene area (naturally) but what about up here in the sprawling PDX metropolis?

Downtown Portland is probably my favorite place that I've ever been to in the entire US.

The meeting at the Lucky Lab last night was a great success even though it coincided with a number of season finale's! Sorry Spencer!

Please sign up on the mailing list if you haven't already. We have over 60 members on the list. 17 people showed up last night which was awesome. We finally finished around 10:15. A lot of progress has happened in the last 3 or so weeks and I am hoping it will continue.

The next meeting will be more organized and will include a main talk. At this point it will either be on the Unreal engine or if someone wants to step up and talk about the Torque engine that would be great - maybe even someone from garage games? It would be awesome to support the local game companies. Also, the next meeting will *not* be at a bar so people under 21 will be able to attend.

John.

BushMan: Feel free to post a message to the mailing list for scripters.
Joshua: Don't worry about being introverted, kinda comes with the territory ;-)

Ya know I've thought about it a little more, and...

Portland's better.

No worries at all. I had two, count 'em, two VCRs going at once! Then I came home and gorged myself on the old must-see TV.

Heh, unless you're talking basketball.

Actually, I just heard from a friend in Sacramento who was saying how much she likes it... and how she hopes other people don't move there. You're not putting up a smokescreen are you?

Personally, though, I could never live there. So dry...

I've met a lot of girls who like it here. I don't know why, but they do. Most guys I know don't. We wanna leave.

As for the smokescreen: you'll find that veering around the Mojave Desert, near LA.

I'm moving to the Corvallis area next week. I'll be the general manager of a local game developer called Knife Edge (www.knifeedge.com). They (we) make an R/C airplane simulator.

Looks like there are plenty of like-minded folks in the area. I'll try to make the meetings in Portland.

James B.

Wow, I didn't know KnifeEdge was here in Corvallis. I guess sims of R/C planes are cheaper than crashing a real one!

I'd volunteer to test for you but can't spare the time! :(

I'm settled in to my new position here at Knife Edge in beautiful Corvallis.

We are looking to hire an artist so if anyone is interested please send an email to me. We're a small company with a very successful product and a lot of ambition! This is a great opportunity for the right person.
