Any Portland, Oregon GG people?

by Spencer Boomhower · in General Discussion · 02/04/2003 (7:01 pm) · 51 replies

This same question was posted once, long ago. Now that I've moved to Portland, I'm curious what the current count is. I know there's a concentration of devs in the Eugene area (naturally) but what about up here in the sprawling PDX metropolis?

When I'm not in West Lafayette, Indiana, I'm there.

Edit: Dunno know what "proper" means, but my mailing address says Portland and I spend much too much time downtown (though I don't actually live downtown).

I live in Eugene, but I visit Portland frequently (I'm from Gresham).

But no one in Portland proper, huh?

Danny, I saw your presentation at the IGC, good stuff.

By Portland proper I mean within the city limits, excluding suburbs.

Not that there's anything wrong with the burbs, but if I was to ever get around to team building, it would be nice to try include people who were most accessible for a face to face.

Spencer:

Ah. Well, I'd be very accesible for that purpose. I went to highschool downtown, and I've held a few jobs there, too...

But it doesn't matter, I already have a company in which I'm involved. ;)

Ah, well perhaps I was too quick to dismiss the burbs :). My urban snobbery shows through.

Hey,

I'm down here in Corvallis.

Portland is short enough of a drive if you want to do something for a day (like a game session? Or I can come and test your new projects? or ??).

From Portland: 2 hours (doing the speed limit).

I live in Springfield (a skip away from the GG guys) and have family in Portland and Seattle. Make the drive all the time.

Personally, I got nothing to test, so I can't help you there :/ I'm mainly just trying to get a feel for what the PDX dev population is.

It's fascinating to me that there's so few game development people here. What with Eugene and San fran to the south and Seattle to the north, you'd think PDX would be a hotbed of development. I actually know a few devs who'd love to live here if there *was* a company. Maybe Portland lacks the kind of go-getters it takes to start up a company. I guess it's just too mellow here, what with everyone taking yoga and going to massage school and all ;)

Maybe, at some point, a meeting of PDX devs would be in order. By "meeting" I of course mean go to a brew pub and drink beer. That's the other thing we do in Portland.

Edit: bad grammar...
