FPMMORPG (or what am I getting myself into)

Hello all,

My company and I are looking for an idea of where we want to go with our first game and the current popular idea is a FPMMORPG. I love the idea but then I took a look at the requirements (non-game) that we would need.

Servers, high-end net access, tech support personnel, etc, etc. The imaginary numbers are staggering.

Is there anyone out there that has dealt with the production and consequent maintenance of an MMROPG that wouldn't mind throwing in a hint or two as to what I should expect?

Is it feasable to sell the design off to a publishing house?

Well i see it as being so over used. I personally get tired of online games. when will a good Single Player game come out :/ But to answer your question, Running an MMROPG, can be hard to do, I use to work with a game team that released some small game, and it was hell to have to deal with all that stuuf. On top of the servers, Updates, and just Upkeep. The major thing is the constant Tech Support. It is a living hell. So I would really think it over.

I come from a history of Role-Playing games so I crave that open-ended atmosphere. Hence the reason for pursuing the online path. But I see the constant tech support as an issue as well. Finding the people to monitor the phones, so to speak, will be difficult.
