Torque 3D Not Working At All! (--FIXED--)

by Justin Myers (jlmstudio) · in Torque 3D Professional · 05/02/2009 (8:57 pm) · 10 replies

I installed the listed Direct X SDK and both Physix files. Installed Torque file downloaded from account.

Problem 1:
After installing when I click on the icon on the desktop I will get the hour glass and then nothing happens. I will check the processes in the task menu and Torque 3D will list but nothing loads.

Problem 2: When I try the FPS demo I will receive a blue screen of death after my double click. No matter what the BSoD will appear.

Problem 3: When I try the tool box I will get the send error report screen. Nothing appears besides the error report screen.

Computer Info:
Windows Professional XP Service Pack 3
Intel Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz
3.0 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Series GPU Driver Version 6.14.11.7519

Any guesses at a salution in this situation would be a great help. I'm the artist type so I'm not into coding. So if a fix needs coding or compiling please be so kind as to add some steps on how to go about it. If you need anymore info on whats happening or computer info just let me know and I will list it.

Thanks so much for any help,
Justin

Update your drivers via Nvidia and not Microsoft. MS will give you something too old.
www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Go here, find your card and it'll probably say something like version 182.50

Also check you have the most up to date DirectX - probably this one www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652...

Good advice on the driver! Post back if this fixes your issue :)

Ok updated Nvidia driver and still no fix. Went back and checked the direct X and the menu from the control panel says DirectX 9.0 is installed.

I will unistall torque then re-download it and try reintalling it. Any more suggestions would help.

I do run two monitors at once. Dunno if this could be causing it but has anyone tested it with two monitors? I have no clue whats causing the BSoD to appear.

Thanks,
Justin

I am running it on 2x 1920x1200 moving it forth and back between the screens commonly. No problem here

Ensure to run oalinst and try renaming the OpenAL32.dll to something else in the project folder to see if this helps. This will ensure that T3D uses the current OAL, not the one provided with the install, which can help

Got a microsoft error that lists:

Error Signature:
BCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : 00000000 BCP3 : A5673B44
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 256_1

I did uninstall/reinstall with no luck. I will try the renaming the file to see what happens.

The rename did nothing at all. Still received the BSoD and hourglass on desktop icon.

Ok another observation. When I click the icon on the desktop with the Task Manager open I notice my CPU Usage goes to 100% even though in the process menu Torque 3d.exe is Mem Usage 8,320K.

How long does it normally take T3D to launch? Instantly, one minute, ten minutes? I know I don't have the latest greatest computer out there but it's not that horrible.

In the C:\Torque folder I have three other folders:

1.) SDK
2.) TGEA_1_7_0_Beta_1
3.) Torque 3D 2009 Beta 1

Could any other install be causing problems?

Desperate for help,
Justin

100% cpu usage and nothing happen sounds very much like openal thought ...
its exactly the issue & behavior Vista64 users are seeing if the OpenAL32.dll in the game folder is not renamed + oalinst is beeing run on the system

Ok I can't say I know what openal is, but I did try renaming the OpenAL32.dll to something else. EX. test.dll but this had the same results. Once I rename the file do I have to do something else? Sorry but I'm not a coder so I have no clue about code and the like.

Well today I found a fix for my Torque 3D probelm. As Marc said the probelm is with the OpenAL32.dll. I did try renaming it but this didn't change the results. What did work was I just deleted the OpenAL32.dll file. There are three total. One for all the samples. I was able to open everthing and everything worked! Now I can finally try some stuff out.

Btw I got my T-shirt! Thanks a bunch.
