light_pulse in Hammer

I'm trying to make pulsing warning lights on top of a building I have. I made light_pulse entities and placed them on the building and they illuminate fine, but I cant see the actual light (I was expecting a pulsing red dot for the light). Do I need to make a sprite or decal and tie a light_pulse to it? And if so, how would I go about doing it?

You might have good luck using the fxLight resource.
