trueSpace scnToDts exporter 0.1a ready for testing

by Shane McLeod · in Torque Game Engine · 01/21/2003 (6:59 pm) · 17 replies

Yes, the exporter is ready for alpha testing.

Rather than create numerous models, map them, and export to test this release, I would like to request that those interested in helping me test, send me an email at MadcapMac@liquid-impact.com.

I plan on working straight through the testing process as much as possible to expedite the final release. This means, it would be great if some brave folks could test for me and report what they find. I can fix bugs, make feature or UI tweaks and keep adding new stuff.

By emailing me, I'll make sure you always have the latest and greatest and I'll have a good idea of who is banging on this thing for me.

So, if you email me, I'll send you the plugin and any notes you should know about prior to testing. This will help us communicate without cluttering up the boards.

For a reminder of how I'm releasing the exporter, please see my
.plan.

One thing I forgot to mention, when you send me your email, please let me know what version of trueSpace you are using so I can be sure and send you a compatible .tsx.

What versions of trueSpace is the exporter available for? I have trueSpace 5, 5.2, and 6. Right now I'm using 5.2 because I thought that's what the exporter was initially being designed for, but If it works in 6, I might as well give that a shot :)

Hey Sabrecyd, I got your email, thanks. I'm getting ready to send it to you. If you are using 5.2, that's fine. I'll also send one compiled with the 6.0 sdk.

I just need to type up the readme notes for what to expect.

Are you using the DTS SDK to do this port, or are you writing it all yourself?

Tim,

I'm using the DTS SDK.

I'm using trueSpace 5.1. I'd be interested in trying your trueSpace exporter.

Any possibility of supporting version 3.2 (the freebie version) for your exporter? It would be cool if you do. :D

Eitherway, thanks for the exporters. Hope you continue working on them and GG integrates it into the SDK. :D

I wasn't originally planning on it, but the free release of 3.2 has changed my plans. I'll be looking into compiling for 3.2 this weekend.

On another note, I apologize for the lack of updates recently. I've been very busy with my "paying" job and just haven't had much free time.

That's easing up though, so I'll be back at it this weekend.

Thanks for the continued interest.

Having a free version of TrueSpace does make this a lot more interesting :)

Please include me on your list of people to test your exporter for Truespace 3.2 - Thanks, glad someone is attempting this.

You bet Paul.

A quick update...

I've compiled it for 3.2 but I've run into a bit of a snag. No worries, it'll just take a bit of crunching on it to work out a sneaky little bug I've got.

3.2 did things a bit differently than the more recent versions, but I think I can have the current exporter version built for 3.2 within the next day or so.

Until I get it compiling cleanly for 3.2, I'm not going to add any new features to the current version. But like I said, it should be a small delay.

Also, a quick question. How would all of you TS users like the animation portions to work? I can take a guess at it but I'd rather have feedback from the people who will be using it the most.

Thanks,
Shane

Thanks for compiling for 3.2 this is great. Are you going to develop 3.2 alongside the others from here on out?

That's the plan Adrian. Once I get the kinks worked out, I'll be releasing for all versions at the same time in sync.

I have been using TS ever since 3.0 and have upgraded every time a new version is released. I have to admit that all versions under 5.0 were alot easier to work with. I am definitely interested in exporting animations using TS.

Thanks Mac!

Mac,

Just wondering what the update on the free version for this? I've found the link to the other versions but I think for indie developers an exporter for the free version (3.2) would be fabulous. Please let us know where things are at for this. Thanks.

*bump* any word on the 3.2 exporter Mac?

Well, lemme tell you what the problem is. There are a number of "features" in the API that I'm having difficulty in finding ANY documentation on. A simple for instance is how to access the alpha channel values of a given texture. The 3.2 API is much more limiting than the 5+ API versions.

So here's what I'm gonna do. I'm going to revisit this one more time, now that I have some free time on my hands. If I can't solve the problem in very short term, or at least determine exactly what's missing that I need, I'll clean up the code that I've written and release it so I can get some help in getting this done.

PS, I'm really sorry about the delay on this. My time availability has been quite limited and free time comes in short spurts since this year started. I believe in support TS and still want to make this happen, FYI.
