Random Trees

by John Camp · in General Discussion · 01/20/2003 (8:49 pm) · 9 replies

I remember quite a while back that someone had figured out a way to make trees that were randomly created, so that each was essentially unique. I was just wondering if anyone knows what became of this project, if it is still up and running, and if so, if the code is availible, or if it has fallen into the black pit.

I don't think Melvs code makes trees, it just takes a model and makes a bunch of them.

There was a dev snapshot fairly recently with this (I think), but it was pretty obvious that the guy didnt want to just give away his code. However he was doing it for a university project so it'll most probably be finished. But you might have to pay for it.

I do remeber that project....infact I'm still working on it. ;)

In torque terms I call it fxPlantCreator to go with fxGrassReplicator

The project has been on ice for a month and a half due to another project that came inbetween. However I'm going back to work on the fxPlants this week, and I'm planning on completing the work by mid February.

I'm also planning on selling the fxPlantCreator, but I have not determined anything relating to price, license, source etc.

More on the project is here:

It's Mid February, ressurecting this because I am curious about the state of this project. How's it going? :)

Hehe

Well, I have made the fxGrass 2.0 that you can find in the resrouce section. I have also released a report that you can see to the right Or click here

I'm still going to finish up those trees, but it has been postponed untill august this year.

I guess the releases will be like this:
Summer 2004 - fxFoliageGenerator
Fall 2004 - fxTreeGenerator

Your art is fantastic. I'd give anything to be able to produce work like that. Nothing sucks worse than being great with code, and not being able to put art on it. You have the fortunate ability to do both.

Looking forward to more of your work in the future.

The report was a great read, by the way. Thanks for the update on the project, will definately look forward to seeing the rest!
