Art Pack or Torsion

by J L · in General Discussion · 04/14/2009 (1:41 pm) · 4 replies

So here I am looking for something else that can help a noob like me. I am looking at either Torsion or a dcouple art packs.

Question is this, what does torsion do exactly ? I mean lets say I wanna test a script and the engine crashes, will that give me an idea of where my code is bad ? Is it feasible for a person who is new to coding to pick up and use torsion ?

Download the Torsion demo first, and then compare it to the (free) Codeweaver product. You might find that the free one suits your needs... but you'll never know until you try.

if you're just starting out and want to get a feel for making a game with torque, i would suggest putting off getting torsion until you begin to feel a need for it. - that day might never come. you can do plenty of debugging with good old print statements.

Well .... do you reckon it'll be easier for you to learn to script than it would be for you to learn to create your own art assets?

I'd always plumb for doing what I am most likely to succeed in, and then buy the rest.

There's also Tribal IDE which I believe was geared towards Torque/tribes2 back in the day. Its old and free and really basic. Great to learn on.

Once you get groovin' on scripts... get Torsion. Its heapum-powahful. (I am just a noob at scripting and has already been very useful to me learning.)

Oh yeah.. it does exactly what you asked and will show you what line of what script had the problem. I watch Ari, our lead dev, use Torsion alot... It lets you easily navigate through all the scripts in your project, keeps track of them, lets you launch your Torque project normally, or in debug. It pretty much pwns faces.
