Small Team that makes a free game will be paid with knowledge and credits.. future work with IGW
If your part of team that makes a game that is published and generates income for IGW then the profits will be divided amongst the team that was involved
Small Game Companies that produce a published title under IGW will pay a small percentage or for hosting/advertising/support/staff/libraries.
I hope this answers your question.

Are those salaried ?
Because if they're not, you should say so clearly : advertising for positions without saying so implies that there is a salary, ie it's a real job.
In your last post, you only mentioned teams, as in outside teams, but you don't say anything about the positions you want to be filled.

Lots of people work for free on this site Matt, but don't pull that "paid with experience stuff" (C: That was kinda weak. You knew what he meant.

When you're hired, your paid. Everything else isn't hiring, its looking for volunteers.
I'm not trying to slam anyone here.. so I hope it doesn't seem that way. Just an observation. Good luck with your site.

When I see "hiring" I instantly think its a paid job. But thats just me. When you're hired, your paid. Everything else isn't hiring, its looking for volunteers.

All job positions have the potential to be paid on project success (meaning game is published and distributed generating income) I made it fairly clear for anyone to fully understand what I mean.. by hiring you are right it means payed job.. but payed with experience and a work environment. Hard work always comes before pay especially in the computer industry unless you get with a professional company IE Blizzard & Bioware.
No offense but it is also common sense that if you produce a game that is published and sold that you would recieve money for your work.
Think of IGW as a place for new people to get started as well as to help "beef" up your resume.
This company is starting from literally ground zero.. No Money and A few staff members. I'm not gonna say in my initial post that o btw this company has no financial backing.
Sorry for not being clear on the "salary" issue.

No im trying to help younger programmers see that there is a lot more to programming than the money.. Thats just about everyone cares about in making a game. All job positions have the potential to be paid on project success (meaning game is published and distributed generating income) I made it fairly clear for anyone to fully understand what I mean.. by hiring you are right it means payed job.. but payed with experience and a work environment. I like the idea of IGW, except for one thing, the whole making games thing, does IGN make games? Does EGM make games? I think a younger more underground news source on independent (and even commercial) games would be a wonderful idea and I would love to help out (writing reviews, working on the site, editing, 2d art). I think it would be an excelent opportunity to spread the word about independent games and give people interested in working for a game magazine experience in the field. If you want to make games then I suggest you form another organization for that specific purpose, the two simply should not be mixed.

There is a paradox here. There the "Where's the money gonna come from?" arguement. But any genius can become a millionare with effort. Asking people to throw assets into a blackhole is another situation i see coming up in job offers. Any real business effort can get funding, and im guessing you could get alot for your money in the community as far as commision based employment.

IGW is the connection for every game developers needs as well as gamers. Its a mix between an Independent Game Magazine (need staff) and Games the IGW develops as well as smaller companies that come into IGW... the companies keep their name but they get the resources IGW has to offer for a small percentage of the sales (I mean small :) ) to cover hosting/forums/testers/irc server/ etc.. Also IGW will provide tutorials and source files as well as Texture Library's etc..
Thanks for you interest in IGW and be sure to check the top post for information on applying for staff.
@Tim - Yes it is spending your time and efforts but once again this is a place for new people to get use to how things work.. as well as a place where professional developers can find each other for a common goal. So yes you spend time on working on a project that will most likely fail.. but with IGW you may have 20-50 backing you to help it NOT fail.. unlike the average independent game company that has like 5-10 staff and takes lots of time to make games etc.. With IGW I am hoping it will increase the chances of great independent games to reach the market.

What about a hosting partnership with the OPENA-ART community im starting. Ill be developing a free game-media resource for the community. Itll have a very liberal license allowing IGW to use and sell anything. (front-end???) Ive been stuck on the hosting and community support portions of the project. Do you think we could work together? I did send you an e-mail, my real name is Sean.

I would like to get in on this too. I think it would be a good idea however to keep the news and development portions of this organization fairly separate (at least to the public). Possibly even have different URL's (sharing the same root name) that deals with the two subjects. I believe the people we would attract with news would not be too interested (and might even get turned away) by a strong developer influence. I think that if we kept the development and news fairly close then the reputation for this organization woulndt reach far beyond the GG community, I believe that your casual gamer would feel out of place going to a community like that (as i think they do here) and would prefer a news site oriented around reviews, interviews, screenshots, ratings, and possibly commics and cool fan art. I believe this would do the indie community the most good because it would start brining us into the attention of the mainstream gamers (I go to floridas largest university, no one that I have talked to in any of my computer science classes (these people are hard core gamers) have ever even heard of GarageGames) I believe that GG isnt getting as much press from news sources as it deserves and I believe that by making this a news source, which was not only mainstream, but also supported the indie community heavily, we could help it grow with the common gamer. I also like Sean's idea (Tim Smith). I think it would be great for everyone to work together to better everyones games, I think we should look towards allying with the torque anhancement project, might as well get art and programming together under one roof. I would love to help with the news site (write reviews, art, anything really), and I would be happy to donate a few models or textures or whatever to the developement site. Just let me know, my emails on my profile

I think this could be a great way to develop a better knowledge base for those interested or needing help in becoming active in the games industry and I'm offering any support I can to anyone with this goal.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like some more assistance with this project and when you decide to begin.
You should notify the IGDA about this as it may become more appreciated within the games industry as a whole. In fact I would bet current developers would gladly be willing to post here frequently.
Very good luck in this idea!

I myself have had the idea of starting an indie oriented site based on my own experiences with entering the games industry and puting my knowledge out there with those who want to contribute in order to heighten the indie scene. My general idea involved becoming more active in the general community itself before I started, which is why I've been holding off for some time.I think this could be a great way to develop a better knowledge base for those interested or needing help in becoming active in the games industry and I'm offering any support I can to anyone with this goal.

Ok, this is kind of really weird. You start out with requirements, and a slew of positions that an actual company would have, and then you blow it all out of the water by telling people they will be working for free. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting the for the calls from EOC's and Writers to come flooding in if they aren't making money while wasting their talent. Get some funding.-Chris Cook

I feel sorry for game developers out their doing it only for the money and not to just "make a computer game" im doing IGW because I know there are others out there needing to learn the industry and want onsite experience and some that just want to help develop a game like those that produce add-on's to the torque and release to the public. I commend those that do that and aren't just worried about "will I get paid"
Most 'paid' jobs require you to locate just fyi. Anyways stick around and look for IGW in the future you may find it very useful.
On a side note.
Editor in Cheif is filled and so are most of the writing positions. We just need a few concept arts and a couple more programmers and we can open a new project for members to start learning more. So I don't need to wait for them to call or e-mail.. I recieved a lot of feedback on the original post.

I used an incorrect word as "hire" instead of staff. Common mistake for anyone. If you folks are just looking for money you won't find it in most indie games. I hope you understand that. IGW is looking for talented individuals that want to learn how this industry works and how to write games with hands on experience etc.. instead having to wait for some indie company to take a chance on them. IGW has 4 phases it will go through. They will take a little time to develop each but once its up you will see what I mean.I feel sorry for game developers out their doing it only for the money and not to just "make a computer game" im doing IGW because I know there are others out there needing to learn the industry and want onsite experience and some that just want to help develop a game like those that produce add-on's to the torque and release to the public. As for myself, like I said, keep me informed of IGWs' progress and I'll help with what I can.
For those that don't know, IGW does have a broader goal to help the indie scene, and thats my intentions as well.
Also, I'm a developer because I want to be, not because of the money, that's just the reward for a job well done to me :)
P.S. - If you need some concept art done, I'd be glad to help out.

Just so you know Matt, I've been busy doing my part in the RW project, as well as my own, but I've tried to "get in" with some well known companies to try and get some feedback to put towards IGW :)As for myself, like I said, keep me informed of IGWs' progress and I'll help with what I can.
