it would be cool to know these stats

I would guess around 15/16 thousand community members but I have no idea how many SDK owners there are.

chris brings up a good point, how are the sales of the products here going? as someone who is planning on releasing a game on GG I am very interested in finding out how the whole online indie games experiment is going. Are sales as good as everyone hoped?

Well I would guess that when you go to publish it GG would release these stats to you.

Thanks to all for the replies. Ed Smith has a good point. It is probably smarter for the GG staff to not release the data in general, but to those who are publishing.

I think it's a bit early in the game for solid sales figures. But anyone that's paying attention can work out rough sales figures (assuming they've bought something).

Seems to me they're still trying to find their footing and work through the system before trying to gain exposure. Which is definatly the best way to do it.

I don't see why not. If people want to take a professional approach at this, they should look at how things are done in the industry. Sales figures are released publicly all the time. And more generally speaking, companies release every bit and piece of their sales and expenditures in an "Annual Report" every year. I think it would be good for the community to release that information. I mean, most of us aren't too naive, we understand that these guys aren't gonna make millions, but it would be nice to see how they did do in a smaller community like this.

Are you available to ask a couple questions about your book before I buy it? Mainly I'm interested to know whether or not it covers connecting to a database, preferrably MS SQL. The rest looks like it will be very valuable info but that happens to my biggest concern currently because I have over 40,000 accounts in my database from my previous game not to mention all of the inventory items etc etc...

Thanks!

Wow, this thread is so old that I didnt even know it existed. Heck-of-a-bump.

I can answer this question tho. No. None of the books do. There are a couple of resources here on GG that walk you thru setting torque up to use a couple of different types of databases tho. Just do a search of the resources to find them.
