Havok, Cloth and the GDC...

I'm interested to see this compared to Gerhard's recent work. I'm not sure if you checked out Gerhard's website or not, but he has some seriously insane cloth simulations...

Here's a link to the Havok story...

That's good news...

Here's my point... Those video's look no more impressive than Gerhard's, and Gerhard is working on T3D.

He has a video of cloth tearing into pieces because of wind.... It's really friggin nuts! Also, note he did this with TGEA.

I don't get your point. Without actually knowing how these run, practically, there's no comparasion. They might look identical in quality, but there's other aspects than that. How does it play with the rest of the physics system? How's the performance? Etc.

I can make tech comparable to the tech in Crysis visually, but the performance won't be. For the same reasons...

Edit: And before someone jumps to conclusions, I don't think any is better than the other. But we don't have the ability to tell, yet.

Of course there's that... But Havok made a short video.... Gerhard made a short video....

Both are great video's, yes of course there's lots of other factors and I understand that. However that being said, it's nice to see some of these next gen gaming concepts coming to life in TGEA. Hell, I don't think you're going to see an indie game developer pay for Havok's technology any time soon. The fact that Gerhard proved you can do this with TGEA is comforting.

That's my point.

but from a shallow reading of their page, it's free for non-commercial titles and "select" commercial ones.

It's "free" as long as your product isn't sold for over $10. Exceeding that means they'll have to approve it.

and thats what i am waiting for T3D is going to have cloth thats what brett said to me. in matter of fact brett should have the video already for the cloth. i think its going to be his next blog if not it will be part of a blog non the less and i will buy T3D when i see that cloth in front of me. its the best part of the T3D if its done right which i think they will as there are mill's of things you can do with cloth you don't have to just make carpets or cloths. theres many many things you can do if you have the mind for it.
