Can I download the BETA if I pre-order I license?

by Shane Hamlin · in Torque X 3D · 03/17/2009 (11:10 am) · 19 replies

I'm ready to start learning.

I think torque X 3D is for me rather than TGEA. (Because I want to develop on the XNA Framework.)

But I'm unsure of the features that will be available for Torque X 3D.

I'd really like to try out the beta before I decide...

Do I have to commit to pre-ordering to get a sneak peak?

Pre-ordering does not get you a sneak peak..

Even if you preorder you just gota wait until its released. Then yes you've committed. There is no "trial"

So what is the point of preordering the TX3D engine?

I have been curious about T3D as well since I started asking questions about TGEA before I realised that Torque3D was coming.

I've had the Torque X 3D Beta since 2007.... People are getting confused about Torque 3D and the prior C# / XNA Torque X 3D.. This happens when they keep jumping all around from one project to another!

Torque 3D from what I've seen is not the Torque X 3D..

Look at the collada demo... There are references in the scripts / code for Torque X, but mainly it's just the addition of TGEA into the Torque Game Builder interface?.. You see TGE, TGB and Torque X listed in various parts of the Collada Code..

I think there should be a trial or a demo. Cause I personally don't want to buy a Torque 3D license if it's nothing more than hacked up versions of the TGEA 1.8.1, TGB and Torque X engine. The videos show the TGB style interface and the collada demo shows the newer designed in game interface. But the underlying engine and technology appears to still be the same. No new DirectX 10, 10.1 or 11 renderers. It seems to have more new features being adding to what is becoming outdated technology.. I've read nothing that mentions otherwise.

From what I have seen there is a Torque X3D beta available but this one is based on an old version which still uses XNA2. The new version uses XNA3 but has not yet been released and is currently available for preorder. Nevertheless you have to wait for the new version to be released.

I was wondering if the price will increase after the engine was released or not. Because if there is no trial and the price will stay the same I would like to wait until the engine is actually released.
I also miss a release date, I won't preorder something that I do not know of when it will be actually available.

So the new Torque 3D isn't C++/TorqueScript? The new version is C# and XNA 3.0?

Now I'm really confused. I've read nothing, not even on the pages that mention Torque 3D as being a C# version. I thought it was TGEA incorporated into and TGB style interface.. I've guess I've been wrong all along then from what I've read.

There are two different engine:

Torque X 3D (C#) http://www.garagegames.com/products/torquex-3d
Torque 3D (C++) http://www.garagegames.com/products/torque-3D

The main point is that Torque X 3D is based on XNA so you need no devkit for the Xbox 360 version.
Torque 3D is C++ so you need a devkit to make it run on the Xbox 360.

It's not wonder I find it confusing.. They have changed the TGEA page to now be the Torque 3D page. It links to TGEA demos, not Torque 3D as you would think. All of the screenshots are from TGEA games, not Torque 3D.. Obviously, they changed the TGEA name to Torque 3D but left all of the TGEA content..

The key is usually in your account. If it does not show up or does not work, let us know. We are experiencing a few problems with the ignition system.

Wow- that was released on the sly. I've been checking this site more or less daily and I missed it.

I notice you can download the TX3 demo from the TorqueX page, but I don't see it in my account. I'm a CC member. Should I see it or do we not get access to TX3 for free anymore?
