[Question] About Networking

by St. · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 03/17/2009 (6:50 am) · 3 replies

I've recently noticed a line in TGEA description that I haven't seen before:

"For less latency sensitive simulations like MMORPGs, virtual worlds, etc., Torque can support 1000+ players per server."

And I became curious, what is this statement based upon?
Have there been any tests or is this just assuming?
Does that mean that TGEA in its current state (with some reasonable modifications, of course, and without complex physics) is capable of dealing with such amount of connections or is it just a theoretical possibility?

There are several links to forum threads about MMOs and TGEA networking here (below the original post, there are links). Several talk about networking tests done and what can be done to get TGEA close to that level.

Generally, you're looking at a few hundred per server, depending on how much data is flying around.

Awesome, thanks.
And I apologize for raising such question, I wouldn't have done that if I haven't missed that link of yours before. My fault. :)

@St.: Nothing to apologize for. This is a forum, and lots of threads get buried, so questions inevitably get raised multiple times.
