Guided Projectiles and Missiles

Hi all.

Could someone explain to me why the guided projectile code from T2 was taken out? Did someone already work in that regard, or do I have to start from scratch?

I think the reason is that Dynamix didn't want to release that code to the public. However have a look at cirrus.realityslip.com/, they have a nice tutorial about this issue.

Hey thanks for the url!

As for the reason, well... duh ;)

Well, I think they wanted to avoid numerous Tribes-clones, so they kept some too specific code to themselves (well, at least specific in their eyes), e.g. AI, the Command-Map-View, parts of the recording functionality, ... However, some of those gaps have already been closed by now.

Or likes the Miles Sound System, it could have used licensed IP, ie need to buy your own license to use it, and hence could not be included in Torque...

I'm not sure, but if other programmers working at Dynamix didn't want their code contributions in V12/Torque then there could have been legal implications had their work not been removed.

My shot-in-the-dark guess, anyhow.

Unless you have a REALLY cool contract, programmers don't usually have a veto option in cases like these.

Sierra owned Dynamix and all its work. It's Sierra's property (Tribes specific art and code) and they aren't gonna give it away. Especially to be sold in another game. AFAIK, Jeff and Co. worked out a deal with Sierra for the barebones of the engine long before they left Dynamix.
