DTS Model with Transparency & Environment Map? (Shiny Glass)

by Dave Calabrese · in General Discussion · 12/28/2002 (9:47 am) · 5 replies

I've heard rumors that the Torque engine cannot support a texture that is transparent and also has an environment map. Is this true? I've made a few attemptes at doing this to create a shiny glass sphere with a DTS model, however each time the game tries to load it, the game gets a critical error and my entire computer literally locks up. Anybody know if it is true that the engine cannot support this type of manuver, or if it is true, a hint on how to get it to work?

Thanks a lot!

It is possible. I tought it wasn't, but I was recently proven wrong.

Any idea if it takes any special modifications to the engine?

Torque already supports this.

I have gotten car windows to be both transparent and have an environment map.

This functionality is discussed in the MAX DTS Exporter docs.

Anthony - did you do that with your car used as a mountable wheeled Vehicle (as opposed to an unmountable static item) built with Milkshape ?.

When using Milkshape I have no problem with the transparencies with just another item in the world, but the game client always crashes when the car is a shape. The problem went away when I used only ONE material in the milkshape file, but then of course, that meant no transparent materials (unless I wanted that single material to be transparent...)

I have it setup so the windows are separate objects from the car's body.

They get their own texture map, but I only did that so I could get more texture room for the car's paint.
