Could someone (anyone?) please help me. I bought a scanner (Cannon Lide) and faced a problem - I can not get rid of old scanner drivers (HP). they seem to occupy all the selection boxes. PC sort of doesnt even see the new scanner and still offers old HP as source.
Thanks in advance.

I have Win98, scanner is connected via USB port.
The problem is - when setting up the software (ArcSoft Photo Studio5 - coming with scanner), I have to select source. Manual of course shows that in the choice box there appears Canon Scan LiDE, but in reality I have only one choice and it is HP Precision Scan LTX.
When trying to scan without this step, Windows says that failed to detect TWAIN source.
Now, I was thinking, what the hell, I dont need that Photo Studio5 anyway - lets try to scan with Adobe Photoshop instead. No luck. Tried to change TWAIN source within Photo Shop - it shows me only one choice and guess what - its HP Precision Scan LTX...
I bought this PC used, I wasnt even aware it had HP Precision Scan installed before.
My guess is that HP scanner drivers are "blocking the view", but how to get rid of them? Or, at least, make sure that changing source I can see Canon besides HP?
Uff, I'm quite tired of this already. Usually, everything that is supposed to be "plug and play", plugs and plays for me.
Maybe someone has encountered similar problem?
And sorry for asking in this particular forum, but it seemed most fitting.

Sorry for sounding chaotic, I was siply pretty angry on my inability to handle the problem.I have Win98, scanner is connected via USB port.

I haven't touched win98 for a while, but I think you can do it like this:
- Click on start menu, and select control panel
- Select the system icon
- Switch to the "Driver List" (I believe) tab.
- look through that list.
- There should be an icon, which is like a yellow warning sign for one (or more) of the drivers. Hopefully the HP driver should be one of them.
- If it's not, look through that list until you find it, then delete it or uninstall it.
- Try your new scanner again.
good luck

Maybe you should try to remove the device driver for the old HP scanner.I haven't touched win98 for a while, but I think you can do it like this:

I feel rather foolish, but as almost always - the solution was simple and silly - problem was my USB port - it turned on and off and Windows simply could not detect scanner because it wasnt connected (duh).Thank you for your replays, guys.
