I appreciate your response. I would however request that you read thoroughly before posting a blanket response such as that =). The project we are working on is not an MMO, but rather a completely unique type of project.

Also, like others on my team I have several years of experience in the gaming industry. Trust me when I say I fully understand the trials and tribulations of starting a professional game project. Thank you however for trying to steer youngbloods in the right direction.

@Brian: That blanket response is more than just the initial post at the top of the thread. Scroll down and you'll see a few dozen links to help you out with development if it's networked at all, veteran or not :)

Good Luck on the project. I like the sci-fi stuff, so I'm looking forward to what you're cooking up!

Yeah I happened to notice that myself. That actually is helpful.

My apologies on the first comment. It gets very hard trying to put together a REAL rpg comment these days. Almost every time you mention RPG's in today's game development world people automatically assume MMO. I assumed that was what you were attempting to do and after getting a lot of that in the recent past I finally twitch-snapped. I didn't mean to be abrasive.

Thanks though. Hopefully youll enjoy this particular Sci-Fi romp. =)

It happens to all of us, no worries (I could have just asked, lol). Any more info on your project?

To be honest, I am keeping much of the project close to my chest. This will only be until I have everything established the way I want. What I can say is that the project is not just a game itself but a tool. The game will include tools to allow the user to create their own content in order to fill a vast divide in the Sci-Fi side of the RPG genre.

The community will be hearing from us though, no worries. As the team begins to expand and our initial startup phases are complete you can expect regular announcements and press releases.

Brian: I noticed that you mentioned letting players create their content. There some considerations that you may want to think about depending on if the content is created strictly in the game engine or uploaded by the player. If the content is created in the game engine then you might be OK, if not read below.

1. If the players will be uploading content, then other players will have to download the content and things could slow down during game play.

2. Bandwidth will be another consideration as time passes and your customer base increases. You will need to plan ahead so that you don't lose customers because your bandwidth is getting choked from the amount of content that needs to be downloaded.

3. Server storage for uploaded content will also be a consideration as well as the performance of the server and your local network. Spend time planning this out properly in the beginning to avoid headaches later.

Hope this helps.

I have put a lot of consideration into those issues. I do appreciate the tips... Indeed, similar issues have come past my head as well. Ive run into a few issues that will, in my mind, need circumventing but overall I think I have a decent plan for handling the distribution of user created content.

Once our initial phases are done and we release more about the game, Id love to hear feedback though. So keep us in mind! =)

Updated to reflect our new (and final) name. Change was due to copyright / domain issues.

Also updated thread to reflect current open positions.
