If your running in X you can also use the develper tools, just don't compile but they will help with some syntax

For Windows just use Tribal IDE. It is a syntax coloring Win32 application that is basically just a text editor with color syntax. It use to be located here http://tribes.barrysworld.net/ide/ Maybe PlanetTribes.com has it? :P

Or use JEdit, it's written in Java and runs on MAC, too... :)

We got TribalIDE on our site, too, if anybody needs it...

Well, Paul's installer is for OS X, but you should be able to install the different parts (Java VM, JEdit and the plugins) individually on older MAC platforms, too...
Try the JEdit website at www.jedit.org...

Nope... Apple in their infinite wisdom decided not to release a Java 2 VM for MacOS 9.

So the inability to run JEdit on MacOS 9 is Apples fault.
