How to extract highscores from Marble Blast?

by David Almstr · in Marble Blast · 12/26/2002 (8:43 am) · 58 replies

Hi,

I'd like to extract all the highscores from MB to i.e a textfile to compare them with the scores my brother gets (he has his own copy of the game).

This could be useful for let's say a webpage with our scores which then could be automaticly updated (without us having to type each new score in all the time manually).

Could anyone please tell me where to find the data for the highscores?

This app could be useful for everyone missing the multiplayer option in MB when it comes to beating someone elses scores.

Great game!

The high scores are in the marble/client/prefs.cs file off of the main Marble Blast directory.

Is the ability to record a demo already in the game?

Because I see that as being a great way of legitimizing Marble Blast high scores, instead of using the honors system.

Thanks Mark, my scores just got a whole lot better ;)

LoL

You can also unlock all of the levels by editing the prefs.cs files

On a side note. I've almost completed a small MOD for Marble Blast to upload your fastest time for each mission to a central server.

I just need to create the web pages and add some security checking to the MOD (to help prevent faked scores) and I'll be ready to upload it.

EDIT:
Completed goto Marble Blast High Scores to download the MOD and view scores.

Awesome mod, LabRat! I'm heading out of town for vacation, but rest assured, you'll see my name up there after the first ;)

WOOOOOOOOOT

LabRat, you are the man.

And I am the man! mr_luc is 0wning! Your mod has inspired me to demolish my old high scores of thirty minutes ago and replace them with fresh, shiny new high scores.

You're just lucky I dont have the full game yet. I just got 8.76 on "Hop Skip and a Jump" (demo level 2)!

DOH!

Eric and mako are owning.

The good and the bad thing about reporting scores is that in most cases, if you figure out some leet way of lowering the time, the fact that you've lowered it makes it almost instantly apparent what you've done. Which makes for very spirited and fun competition.

LoL... I believe Thrill Ride is a good example of that.

I know what you're doing, I just can't get the timing down to bounce over the guard wall and down onto the finish platform.

You have to use diagonal (W+A/W+D) movement, and aim for the back CORNER of the starting point. That's the takeoff point.

If you can time it right, you can get a nice speed boost from bouncing the whole time too.

I have a 3.98 and a 4.00 sitting on my high scores, but that wasn't using the mod (I was running the wrong shortcut) so I am going to have to try and recreate those.

I have some interesting shortcuts for the last level on Intermediate, but I haven't gotten all of them to work together yet, and I'm only picking up 2 of the three hourglasses.

God, this is fun though. The fun went up DRAMATICALLY after you put that site up. Who the hell is mako??????? Lol, he's killing me.

DOH!

DOH!

DOH!

Are you 'Got Milk?'

I finally took out 'Got Milk' on Will o' Wisp, and Around the World, but the rest I am going to have to think on.

Oh, and mako's score on 'To The Moon' is just crazy. That must be one of those irreproducible accidents . . . . man oh man.

Insane scores. But, hey, you made the game. You have a right to hand us our asses with it. :)

and as soon as I post that, I notice that Gortec beat the 'To The Moon' score.

Irreproducible? Maybe I just suck.

Aha! I found a faster way through Will 'o Wisp :) Beat that, Luc! Also, I had to post a respectable time on Half-pipe elite and a couple of others... whee!

Doh, I just got that myself -- I'm 3/10 of a second behind.

I'm curious -- are you raising/lowering any of the platforms? Because I discarded that method, myself . . .

Ah, ok, I got it.

EDIT: AAAAAGH gabe you little wanker!!! My little brother was playing, and I accidentally entered his name on Half-Pipe Elite. Gabe is me. >:( Gonna see if I can retake it :( . . .

All right... I shaved 4 seconds off your Will o Wisp score... that one should stand for oh... at least the next 15 minutes :)

== heh, found a new way to do Half-Pipe Elite too - whee!

DOH DOH DOH.

Man . . . . I threw everything I had at Will o' . . . . I don't see how I can shave more; maybe just better execution. *sigh*

I just realized that I have played this game for about ten times the hours that I have played UT2003. And I've had this for how long now? lol. Damn this is fun.

I think there's even more to shave off my time for Will 'o Wisp... the key is the Gyrocopter (how's that for a hint ;)

Glad you're enjoying the game Luc - it seems to have sparked the same addiction in you as it has in me :) I think I spent more time playing it this fall than actually coding...
