rain, real rain... and other ideas, for melv ;p

for melv, if you are interested, i has some ideas from the Fx series of yours. what if you could have an fxRain. there would be a placement area, and you could have it place random spawn markers (option of making the hidden) those markers could maybe sway or move around a bit, then a spawn rate would choose how fast to spawn the rain particle. but instead of normal 2'd images that need zone's etc.. , why not have them be like grenades. using a 2d image like the normal rain, they would fall and splatter(explode and be deleted) whenever they hit something. then if it hit terrain or a roof or a tree, it would act as real rain. just a PNG file for the droplets and a shockwave (not the player) animation for the splatter. the radius could be wide enough to be an area that would be rained upon.
i think that would work quite well but i have no idea how to do it. very usefull tool for many. btw, the grass stuff is crazy, i love it.

What's wrong with the rain as it is now? Doesn't look too bad in my game.

does the current rain make splashes ? im not sure, just was thinking if they were'nt 2d imades you could also do a type of meteor storm too like that.

When any given rain particle crosses the barrier with any given face of the terrain, display an explosion animation at that location on that given terrain face. The explosion anmiation should be your splash. With the duration being short and sweet, and only appearing on the client end.... it might actually work.
Or I might be way off and it could reduce your game to a slideshow ;)
