Realm Wars Map

by Peter Eberle · in General Discussion · 12/17/2002 (1:25 pm) · 7 replies

Is anyone working on a map of the RW world? The one in the current build is from a different backstory then is currently being worked on and I was wondering if anyone has started on one for the current backstory. I'm taking a stab at it myself, but I'm no artist, just a guy who likes maps. If I can come up with something decent I'm more then willing to hand it over to someone to make it look good and finish it up.

I was going to make an outline of the land and have someone texture and paint it, since I'm not very good at that sort of thing. I have a few maps lying around that I've drawn, but I don't have a scanner ready at hand. Fortunately, drawing a black and white outline can be done with a mouse, somewhat on the same level.

I'll upload one later.

If one of these doesn't work, post away and complain.

You'll have to copy and paste these links since Angelfire is a stupid link slut.

And... my sad little attempt to color it:

[edit]: Come on, there was less than a minute window for anyone to notice that. :p

Sweet, I love the blue hues.

The font is also cool!

The name rocks too, "Hosted By Angelfire"

One question, is the only lake on the Northern continent the Ogdel? If that's 1000 miles long then the overall contintent would be over 15,000 miles wide! That would make the world huge wouldn't it?

Would you mind if I took your map and fooled around with it myself? Maybe make a few changes and add some cities and ruins and names and such. Or maybe it would be better if I just did my own (would that seem less offensive/upsetting)? Honestly it's not really what I expected but I'm flexible. Tell me what you prefer or if I should just give up the idea totally.

Yeah, I'm not too good with scale. :D

I just wanted to do the outline because usually when people make maps, the land ends up looking like islands instead of continents: almost circular areas of land composing 1/2 of the planet. Whatever goes inside of the continents is jim dandy. The size of the continents is all fine, I think. (Order of size is North, South, West, East, Central, from big to small.)

Have fun.

Cool map. I especially like the southern continent. I always pictured it looking a lot more arcadey, like a rough oval filling a 4:3 screen.
I dont think you need to worry much about land to sea ratio, since it could be more of a mediaval type map which is limited to only the currently known/explored world being mapped, so much of the planets ocean would not be present.
I think what the writers are describing on the northern continent would be a lake about the same kind of situation as the mediterranean, or the black sea.

I think an annotated map would be very useful for the development process too, to help fit everything together - I was actually going to ask if anyone had done a map yet until I noticed this thread. (luckily it was still on the first page in the forum)
I was also going to volunteer to do a map, but since you already have I suppose I can sketch how I imagined a more arcadey interpretation of the world to be, just for diversity and different ideas and stuff.

I really do think it would be an idea to do a page with an annotated map, one where it would be fairly easy to add to or change the notes.

Just a note on maps, the Junkyard would be happy to host any and all RW maps (even works in progress). Just head on over here: the-junkyard.net/maps.php. You can either email us letting us know of a new map and we'll take care of it or you can upload it and set everything up yourself.
