I need to find a free game engine for the Mac that will allow me to make a 3d platformer.

You know, apart from Crystal Space I really can't think of any other off-hand.
Go to:
www.sourceforge.net
www.freshmeat.net
www.google.com
and do a search. I'm sure you'll turn something up.
Also, I know the following is completely out of date, but you might find something:
cg.cs.tu-berlin.de/~ki/engines.html
Gizmo3D from ToolTech might be worth looking at. The current version doesn't support the Mac, but they say future ones will. It might be worth asking them how the Mac support is coming along.

Of course, Torque only costs $100 and that would certainly work for creating a platformer. :)

If you want a a good free game engine try the nebula device http://www.radonlabs.de. Its a good looking engine with a clean architecture.

The best result is by working until you have $100 and buy Torque. Or if you are a student and work on a student project, then you get a free license!
I'm going buying the commersial license in a few months, when I'm graduated! - Can't wait!

I'm with Brendik. We spent only a few hours getting a mac build for ThinkTanks. $100 is not a lot to spend for a game engine. How many hours do you have to save to justify $100 expenditure? Even the search for a Mac gaming engine that satisfies your needs will cost you more than $100 of time, and I doubt you'll get something as good as the Torque.clark

MacOS X support for The Nebula Device is in the works, might even be quite close to being usable. If it isn't, someone is actively working on it (there was a spur of activity on the TND mailing list about it a while back ;))

Possibly Genesis3d. www.genesis3d.com
