SSAO Update not in "My Account"

by William Lee Sims · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 01/24/2009 (8:51 am) · 11 replies

I can't seem to find anybody else asking this, so...

It appears that ubiqvisuals.com has provided 1.3 of their SSAO plug-in to GarageGames. My account download link has only verion 1.2.

Could somebody at GG please update my account? Thanks!

I'll let our third-party manager know if he hasn't been inundated with e-mails already about it.

The download is still 1.2. I wouldn't press this issue, but my artist and I are trying to make decisions on look-and-feel based upon how this looks in our game.

SSAO is available on GG now?

I purchased it a while ago and I don't see it in my acct portion of this website... Should I?

According to the forums on Ubiq Visuals' website:

Quote:I just wanted to find out when v1.3 of SSAO will be incorporated in the download link on the gg website (I purchased it of the gg website). I only ask because I really want to get my hands on the update so that I can use ssao in tgea 1.8.

Thanks

Quote:Unfortunately with the Garage Games store we have no control over when they choose to publish the kit upgrades. We sent them the 1.8.0 upgrade at the same time that we posted the upgrade to our website (early January) but it doesn't appear to be published on their end yet.

Your best bet would be to contact them and ask to have the SSAO 1.8.0 upgrade published to your downloads page.

I have a lot of respect for GG, and their products, but being nearly a month behind in posting the SSAO Kit update is certainly unacceptable(especially considering that the update is specifically for TGEA 1.8), and because of such GG has lost a sale and I will be purchasing directly from Ubiq Visuals. Furthermore, I'll be keeping an eye out for such circumstances should I ever decide to purchase another third party content/code pack. I really hope this isn't normal for GG.

I also recommend that anyone considering purchasing the SSAO Kit to take this into account when deciding whether to buy directly through Ubiq Visuals or via Garage Games.

Honestly, I would prefer to purchase from GG just so I can have easy access to this kit from my account page, but unfortunately, it seems that this won't be the case this time around. Sorry, GG.

Edit: On an unrelated note, it would appear that the GG search function is still a little defunct. This particular thread does not show up under the search results when searching for SSAO, SSAO Kit, or SSAO-Kit.

I bought mine directly from Ubique Visuals... I had no idea GG was selling it as well.

@Anybody at GG - Does anybody know the status of this?

GG's delay could have something to do with Torque3D having SSAO built in. They say it will be months before any kind of release. Perhaps the release is closer than we think?

From my understanding, there is a version of SSAO at 1.3 that was created for TGEA 1.8 that has been submitted to Garage Games to release to the users who purchased the previous version through Garage Games.

Even if Torque3D were free to TGEA 1.8 users, I'd still like to see SSAO in my current game so I can make some decision on the look and feel of other objects that are to be created.

@William: I agree. Currently, it seems the only option is to ask GG for a refund and purchase through Ubiq Visuals' website.
