2)Final Fantasy 8 (My fav. RPG)
3)Morrowin (A very free-playing game. It's a world!)
4)Mafia (just because it's c00)
5)Unreal Tournament 2003 (FPS Multiplayer gameplay tuned and tweaked to the max)
6)Tony Hawks Series (All ways fun, lots of choices, replayable)
7)OMF:2097 (my fav. fighting game)
8)Liero (action packed and ready for some no lag fun)
9)Princess Maker Series (hundreds of possible endings - very replayable)
10)Hi-Octane (the funnest racing game of all time. So manny interesting ways of kicking ass. It kicks the crappy boring racers asses)
MOST HATED: Wipeout Series. (#1: because people that like wipeout are concole losers.#2: Came out just before Hi-Octane. 3#: Boring just going round and round the track like that isn't it? (I don't understand how such a gameplay lacking game can be so popular).

It all depends what you're into. I'm really into ultra realistic racing games... so I had hours of fun playing Nascar Racing 4 while all my friends were perplexed as to why I could have so much fun just driving around in a circle. To each his own... no reason to insult people because they like different games than you.
Back on topic.. my fav games in no particular order:
-Max Payne
-Operation Flashpoint
-Doom
-A-10 Tank Killer
-F-117A Nighthawk
-WW2 Online

@Jason: WW2Online! Cool! I know that the game was a flop in some ways, but I love the concept. I'm glad you rate it so highly.

@Mike: Yeah, it has its share of problems, but I just can't get over the fact that its a virtual battlefield in a persistent world. Thats just too damn cool! It makes all the round based war games out there seem pointless. I really hope the idea catches on and there are more MMP games that are persistent virtual wars.

2) GTA:VC- If you've never tried this series, remove yourself from the rock you are living under immediately.
3) Starcraft- Very flexable, RPGs, RTS, Puzzle games all in one.
4) SOCOM/Ghost Recon- Basically the same game but one for console and one for PC, multiplayer tactical violence to the max.
5) Realm Wars- I don't know why, but this game has taken over my life. Shows great potential.
These aren't my picks for all time best but the ones i enjoy the most.

Here are a few of the games that have done this:
1. Thief 1&2. No other game has ever been this immersive for me, has ever created a universe this instantly real and exciting and comfortable, has ever been this naturally fun to play.
2. Tribes 1. Actually, my addiction to this game is directly responsible for my low grades over a 1-year period of my life. It was so very, very worth it. :) It is probably the only game that has been shaped by its community to the extent that it is now, evolution-wise . . . skiing, mine-discs, and the bjillions of side-effects they have had on the way the game is played . . . the unique changes that skiing brought to the movement model for the game, which evolved into one of the more perfect and fluid methods of integrating twitch gaming with intelligent technique, as well as organic and natural teamwork. The weird relationship between the devs and the community can almost be likened to a father-daughter-boyfriend thing . . . the father raises his daughter up into a beautiful girl with a unique personality, style, and take on the world. Then she meets her boyfriend -- the community -- and he does things to her that her father hadn't intended and likely would have prevented if possible, but it's too late, she has to live her life . . . and she is made into a different person by her experiences, but a better one. (Weird analogy, mmm?).
3. Mario 64 -- you all know why this was so great, so enough said.
4. Zelda (N64) -- I think you probably know why this one was great, too . . . immersive to the EXTREME, graphics that were -- for the time -- JAW-DROPPING, enormous areas to explore, etc.
5. JetMoto 2. The first one was great, but the second had all of that and more, and the third one sucked. JetMoto is probably one of the most underrated Playstation 1 games out there. The massive courses, often with jaw-dropping scale and design, along with the flexibility that the boosts gave you, PLUS the great grapple ability, made the game a classic. In fact, perhaps the thing that disappointed me the most about Tribes 2 was how the hoverbike was nothing like was easy or as fun to ride as the bikes from JetMoto. That mission with the blocks of ice? Wow. Or the one where you start in heaven, with Pastorale playing, and then WHOOSH you go through the clouds and boom, you're in hell . . . the GREAT musical vibe of the moto games, also; I think they used an updated version of the surf classic "Miserlou" for the first one. I really wish someone would make another JetMoto game, for the PC or PS2 or Xbox . . . with online capability!
There are a few more. I have to say that HALO is a great game -- but it's not MY great game. Of cours GTA3 PC is there too, but it was JUST open-ended enough to make it irritating that you could get away with so much . . . you got bored easily in that game once you'd sunk the 20 hours or so into it necessary to have done everything once. Also, a really big shout-out to Serious Sam. The first game was SUCH a blast, it was really designed with a GREAT sense of fun, and it felt very 'indy'. The second one was great, too, although it didn't seem to have the same sense of scale, even though it was technically more impressive. Also, Rallisport challenge is my favorite car racing game ever -- ever since Mario Andretti Racing for the SNES.
My favorite indy game? This one is going to sound a little weird since the game is SO early in development, since it seems SO limited when you first play it, since you can almost NEVER get anyone to play it with you. All that being said, though -- watch out for DYK's Space Shock (space.crimeforce.com). I know some of you guys have beta'd it, but have you played it with PEOPLE? I swear, you have NO IDEA how much fun that game can be when, say, one guy escorts the other guy in a bomber . . . or when you get out on foot and by dodging between and around buildings on the ground, firing from your puny handgun, manage to take out two ships and their pilots . . . or when you make an amazing series of predictive shot from 600 METERS out, and an enemy ship goes down in a slow, smoky arc . . . it has VERY good, VERY enjoyable basics in place, I can't wait until the next Milestone release. It's even inspired me to spend hours making maps for it, just because it's so play my little brother on different terrain. That game has the potential to be a real multiplayer gem, not least because the design is very clean and fresh and simple, but still the art is of a very high quality.
That's all I can think of for now.

I am one of those gamers that doesn't like every game that comes out -- but I LOVE a select few, obsess over them, eat and sleep and dream them. The few games that I really fall for always capture me entirely, immerse me perfectly, and make themselves an indelible part of my life experiences. Here are a few of the games that have done this:
1. Thief 1&2. No other game has ever been this immersive for me, has ever created a universe this instantly real and exciting and comfortable, has ever been this naturally fun to play.

to name the "best" games.. :(
As well, I hate DnD/Fantasy games so there is a giant
genre I have to disqualify my opinions from.
I guess I'll make a couple categories of my own.. :D
Highest level of gameplay immersion:
PC Tribes 2
Highest level of story immersion:
PS1 Xenogears
Best book to game translation:
Arthur C. Clarke's "Rendevous with Rama".
Game I have spent the most time playing:
PC Tribes 2
Games I think have alot of potential but are pretty much dead:
Serious Sam (suck netcode), Tachyon (what engine does this run on ??)

It's just too difficult to narrow down the game typesto name the "best" games.. :(

1. Starcraft
2. Doom series
3. Warcraft series
4. Tribes/Renegade series
5. Medal of Honor: Allied Assualt/Spearhead
6. Return to Castle Wolfenstien
I have to say these select few, because they are great games, and let my partner-in-crime, use our tactical brains to thier fullest.
* Starcraft and Doom hold a special place in my gaming heart, do to the fact that I met my fellow clan leader/partner-in-crime, giving him cheat codes for the original Doom DEMO!

Any non-console, non-mac, non-barbie/kiddy game around. But if you make me narrow it down...1. Starcraft

6. Return to Castle Wolfenstien
